My turn at poetic pretentions....

I write fiction and non fiction, folks, academic papers and SF.
But everyone has to branch out occasionally.

Crit away and feel free to be brutal.

We who wait for your return
shall linger over coffee and news
when we hear of something that might be
other than we expected.

We who wait for your return
shall fill boxes of drink powder and cookies
because we know the water tastes bad,
metal and plastic, and the chow is crap.

We who wait for your return
shall faithfully show the children your pictures
and speak in ersatz cheerful voices
so their young ears won’t know

that we who wait for your return
hope each day that the news we hear
over the lingered coffee cup
is not news that you won’t return.
