1. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. |
|
I'm in that state where I'm having to fight urges to do wild/risky/dangerous things because I'm so out of sorts. If it lasts too much longer I'm going to have to break down and go back to the doctor. Sigh.:banghead:

I'm going to hold on until after my upcoming vacation, which begins next week. If things don't improve after that I'll likely do something.

7. Why do you think that is? |
|
I've been going through it myself for a few weeks now.
Is it the world-situation? It's certainly enough to make me horribly depressed. But I started on an anti-depressant a month ago (Wellbutrin) and I'm finding myself all over the map, emotionally, but I can't tell if it's because of the world, or the drugs.
I cry at the drop of a hat - but there's a lot to cry about right now. I've always been a "sensitive" type, but I see a baby, an old person, a dog... stranded, hurt, suffering, needy... and my heart breaks. And I cry.
It's so weird that my Wellbutrin intake coincided so precisely with the hurricane as well as a few personal problems - my father fell and broke his hip, I lost my dog-walker, I had a very unfortunate falling out with a very close friend... it all sucks.
I'm really really upset and saddened by what's going on in the world. But I have to say, I thank God that I'm not ready to slit my wrists. The drugs are rescuing me from a very severe depression.
So how do I reconcile a naturally depressive personality with the horror going on in the world? I have no idea. But the drugs are working, and for that I'm very thankful.

9. You sound like me, sort of |
|
While I have a base disorder, I've recently had a trauma. I won't let myself cry about that so I end up wanting to cry about songs, tv shows, furry animals, NOLA, the war, books I read, sad or shmaltzy commercials, etc.

10. I'm pretty sure most professionals |
|
would advise against ignoring the trauma.
I don't know what it was, and it's certainly none of my busines, but if you're directing your emotions about it elsewhere, it's not healthy.
Do you think you're using NOLA as an excuse to express pain you would otherwise suppress? I've wondered that about myself.

12. I don't think I'm using NOLA as an excuse really |

I think anyone who didn't become sad and/or angry over that had a problem. However it is decidedly abnormal to be weepy over all the other things I mentioned, at least at the drop of a hat. And of course having majored in Psych and working in mental health I know repression is bad but I find it the best way to avoid my other extreme...obsession.
Yes, I am quite neurotic at times.
