56. Eventhough I do not have much of an accent, I'm told...

I think it is because I can speak three different languages (German, Polish and Spanish), four if you want to count English. However, I can turn on a southern accent when needed (I am a born and raised, gen-u-ine South Kakalinian, so it's rather easy).

When I speak German, the Germans ask me if I'm from England... go figure...

58. Actually I'm a historian

The language skills of German and Polish are just manditory skills for my specific region of specialty. One must be able to read and understand original documents as well as conduct interviews with the participants of what is/was being studied. There are no university-level jobs in the field of history as it is so saturated with others who have history degrees. So, I ended up teaching German for an income. Now, here is something which ticks me off: According to No Child Left Behind I am no longer "highly qualified" to teach history eventhough I have my doctorate in the field. Foreign languages are in such a demand, that I'm locked into this position. That's OK because the curriculum requires that history and culture of the language to be studied as well; and my upper level classes are mostly history, but taught in German. I'm cool with that as a compromise.

Even if I were to find a job at a university, I would have to start all over again at the bottom. I now have the equivalent of tenure and only eleven years to go until retirement. So, I'll stay where I am.

I learned Spanish in high school, then put it to practice while in the Marines.
