Ohio DUers: Should we contact Peter Lewis to donate to DU? |
|
As many of you might have already seen on the front page of today's Cleveland Plain Dealer Peter Lewis, the President of Progressive Insurance (based in Cleveland) and a multi-gazillionare who's also a very generous donor and financial backer of liberal and progressive causes (including, btw, marijuana decriminalization), has pledged at least TWELVE MILLION dollars to the cause of kicking Shrub's ass back to his Crawford Ranch next year. To have a businessman of his stature and wealth on our side is truly wonderful.
I just read Skinner's thread on DU's monthly expenses (around $12,000.00 per month), and the fact that DU gets more traffice than even MoveOn.org. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would do very well without DU! If I'm not on for at least a couple hours a day, I get mighty cranky, lol! The problem is, I really don't have a whole lot of extra cash so I'm afraid I can't put too much of a dent in their expenses. However, with Peter Lewis pledging as much money as he has to the cause, maybe we could think of a way to approach him to donate a substantial sum to DU. We do a lot of work in regards to making people aware of the necessity of wiping the smirk off of Shrub's face and getting him the hell out of the WH, and I think we could convince him that it would definitely be a useful and worthy donation.

The worst that can happen is he says no.

That's what I think, too. |
|
I think it would be better if a group of us approached him, though.

3. I'd say more than just Ohio DUers ... |
|
Any DUer who's a customer of Progressive Insurance should suggest it. That would probably have more impact, if a group of his customers presented him with the idea.

5. Now THAT'S an even better idea! |
|
We should put a call out to see if there are any DUers who are Progressive customers and figure out a strategy to approach him from that angle.

4. Lewis could finance the next major technical upgrade |
|
Perhaps Lewis could finance some advertising for DU or some sort of public outreach. I think we need a definite goal and plan rather than "Elad could use some better duds".
I heard on WCPN that they are going to replay Lewis' speech to the City Club of Cleveland some time in the next couple of days. I was commuting and did not get the exact time and date.

6. He won't find a better progressive Think Tank than DU... |
|
And our stuff is pretty cheap, too.
