1. Have Superman fly counterrotation wise around the equator...
Actually, how did you get smelly pondwater in your eye? Were you smelling a pond and sneezed? And why does smelly pondwater in particular make you vulnerable to pink eye?

2. One time water got to my eye when I was flushing the toilet...
One little drop of water from the bowl jumped up into my eye when I was flushing (after #2). I freaked out! I turned the shower and washed my eyes as if it was poison.

Nothing happened to my eye and I didn't get pink eye. Thank god!

No sprayer, splash water in your eye with your hand.

under a faucet and run water gently over each eye from the outside corner of your eye to the inside corner.

Trying to be clearer -- if you are cleaning your left eye, with your head under the sink you should be looking left. Make sure the water is lukewarm and running gently.

You shouldn't have any problems.

I have had so much crap in my eyes over the years --

Back in college I spent a weekend underwater with no dive mask playing the Lady of the Lake for a film project. I was in the most disgusting, fouled water you have ever seen.

I also had a cat with a massive abscess in his cheek -- I was leaned over trying to get a good view adn ran my thimb over the area. It ruptured right into my eye.

My eyesite survived it all.

5. Call the local hospital and talk to a nurse
My local hospital has a nurse on call to answer stuff like that.

I have heard that a leaf in the eye will give you a fungus infection--so be wary.

7. Make a wash
fill a glass with a little boric acid and warm water. Place the glass over your eye and blink into the solution -- repeat avery few hours if you're worried. You can get boric acid at any pharmacy. Better do it within a few hours.

Actually, you'll probably be ok anyhow!

Good luck!

13. What proportions?
I wanted to take some boric acid powder on a long backpacking trip and I could not find a pharmacist who would give me the proportions to use to make a safe and effective eyewash. They said "it used to be in their books, but the manufacturers took it out for liability reasons". Now they just advise liquid solution.

There was no way I was going to carry ten ounces of eyewash for 100 miles, so I left it at home. This annoys me because we used to have that in the Boy Scouts' first aid manual.

12. Why do you think you'll get pink eye?
You could flush your eye with clean water...no one could guarantee that you didn't get exposed to a pathogen, but....by way of trying to ease your anxiety, the eye gets bombarded with bacteria everyday and everyday you don't get an infection.
