Mrs. Prickley's Tiny Town. Also, their takeoff on "The Grapes of Wrath" and then doing "To Sir, With Love" using a Zorro character.

14. Another emphatic vote for SCTV
I mean, look at their alumni:

John Candy
Eugene Levy
Joe Flaherty
Catherine O'Hara
Andrea Martin
Martin Short
Dave Thomas
Harold Ramis
Rick Moranis

Some of the greatest characters of sketch comedy EVER were created on that show, the one show that could be guaranteed to leave me ROFLPMP every time. God, that was a great show.

I also love the CCCP episodes when the Soviets hijacked SCTV's satellite.
How about Monster Chiller Horror Theater's version of Ingmar Bergman's "Whispers of the Wolf" As Count Floyd would say, "oooooh scary!"

25. Remember SCTV's version of "The Jazz Singer?"
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 07:27 PM by NightTrain

With special guest Al Jarreau. The plot involved a jazz singer who wanted to become a rabbi. Needless to say, his record-producer father (Eugene Levy in his recurring "elderly Jew" role) vehemently opposed the boy's move.

Or when the SCTV building was invaded by television's Id, which made old-time TV characters like Ralph Kramden appear out of nowhere and scare the bejeezus out of the unsuspecting staff. Just brilliant!

42. You're right -- but for all the SCTV fans
who've posted, here's an episode guide:

http://sctvguide.ca/episodes/sctveps.htm

They chopped episodes so badly on TV when I watched them, and jammed parts of one into another, I may have seen the two close together and gotten them welded in my brain.

Why were there no chariots,

Of the Lost Ark!
Met a Nazi!

Absence of Malice!

Absense of Malice!

Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 05:29 PM by DifferentStrokes
An oldie.

Phil interviews the NBC peacock played by Mimi. Cute double entendres--you can imagine--but nothing over the line. Everyone that I have seen it with fell on the floor laughing. Absolutely insane.

Another oldie from the totally insane mode: Flip Wilson's first appearance as Geraldine.

On edit: I still watch reruns or anniversary programs of Carol Burnet shows enjoying the skits with Tim Conway especially. I never watched the show when it was live.

I catch SNL occasionally but am not into the new stuff. It's probably generational, but Monty Python and a lot of the sitcomes leave me cold. Who knows, some day I might be watching reruns of the things I failed to appreciate today.

15. Another vote for Carol Burnett...and some more oldies
Carol could be topped by Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca
and what about Red Skelton? Has anyone here seen the episode where Skelton invited Marcel Marceau on, and they sort of did a mime contest. IMHO, Skelton cleaned Marceau's clock, but they were both incredible.

11. Upright Citizens' Brigade
I chose MPFC for the best, but Upright Citizens' Brigade deserves special notice. They started out as an under-funded improv troupe in Chicago, and shook the form heart and soul until an improv revival was smacked on it's cold, wet ass and handed to Mama for some quality titty time.

Best thing out of the improvisational theater movement since Second City, which had taken a gut-punch with the death of improv guru Del Close.

Three cheers for UCB!
