It's September, it's 90 degrees, it's rainy, and it's Wisconsin. Whhhaa? |
|
Dear Weather,
I love fall. I love it when it gets dark and rainy in September and October and all there is to do is drink coffee and read a book. I love walking home through wet leaves and I love their musty smell.
I also love 90 degree days. I love the heat and even the sticky, thick humidity that puffs out my crazy hair. I love not having to wear a coat at midnight. I love it. It's like being in the womb.
However. These two things together are a little odd and I was wondering if you could maybe try to just pick one or the other and go with it for today. I mean, you are aware that you're in Wisconsin, right, and that Wisconsin is not a tropical island?
Maybe you're going through some kind of personal crisis, Weather. I understand. We've all been there. But look: You're the WEATHER! We need you to not act crazy, ok? If I haven't told you lately that I appreciate you, let me tell you now: Weather, I appreciate you!
I hope you see your way through whatever it is that's bothering you, and you get back to normal soon. I'll do what I can for you on my end.
Your Friend, Jane Pippin

Dammit!
I was up there in June, and bummed that I couldn't enjoy the lovely balmy cool days I experienced in July of 2000. It was just like Texas! I went up there to escape the nastiness!
I'm heading up again in November, and I better be able to wear my sweaters, dammit!

2. Yeah it has been HOT all summer long. Boo to that. |
|
I was in San Francisco for a week about a month ago and the highest it got was about 75. Stupid me, getting ready to leave in 90 degree heat packed no cardigans and ended up having to buy some sweaters/jackets out there. So now I have all kinds of great fall clothes and no fall weather. I love the heat but damn, I wish it would come down a bit already!
Don't worry, I'm sure it will be freezing cold by November. Negative 30 degrees if we're "lucky." I want my seasons back, dammit!

just sent me a gorgeous sky blue/light aqua pashmina. I can't WAIT to wear it!
I don't want -30; just a nice whipping wind so I know it's late fall. And no snow yet, as I have to do some cemetery hunting. Can't see stones with all that snow.

A nice crisp 55-59 with some good rainstorms is all I ask of Oct-Nov. With any luck we'll both get to bust out our fall threads and enjoy them before it gets really nasty out.

I'll be around there, and then I'll be driving up to Wausau the last 2 days. We may try to throw a DU happenin together (first part of November).

I used to live in Madison and enjoy going back from time to time. I'll keep an eye out for any posts about a Madison DU happenin--that would be fun.

rain hard. I brought my umbrella to work and closed the windows at home so of course now it's sunny and bright.

7. It's all my fault. Similar to being able to make it rain by washing my car |
|
I caused the heat wave here in WI by removing my air-conditioning unit from my bedroom.
Sorry....

When I posted it looked like we were in for a monster storm but so far no rain. Now it's hazy and partly cloudy.
This schizophrenic weather is making me crazy. If it does rain though I'll yell at it to get to Illinois post haste.

24. Ok, so I have a question for you then: |
|
Over the past few years I've seen news reports of people going nutzy-kookoo over some snow and I've been wondering why. I know it isn't normal for the area but it seems to me that if you've had it happen a few years in a row it would make sense to get less freaked out about it. What am I not understanding?

18. It was 86F in Mpls/St. Paul last night |
|
...and me without central air. I had my teensy 100 btu window unit set to 73 and two 19" box fans blowing that air throughout the apt, and it STILL didn't cool down.
Damn. Time to go burn some more fossil fuel.

I've been firmly against AC for years (I think if you can safely enjoy summer--not elderly, sick, etc.--then enjoy it. It makes me nuts that it can be 78 degrees outside, I walk into a store and all of a sudden it's 45 thanks to AC). But, this summer finally got me to turn it on once or twice.
We've got a setup similar to yours in our house and you're right, it doesn't do much good. Guess all we can do at this point is try to cool off with tasty beer.

It's overcast in St. Paul right now, and it looks like it's been trying to rain all day.
WOW! I just checked the temp, and it's down to 72°! Maybe autumn has finally arrived?

I couldn't sleep last night because it was so freaking hot and humid. Now it's cold and pouring rain. WTF? Could've used the rain about a month ago when all my plants weren't already dying. I'm going to haul out my boots, because I expect next week it will be snowing.:sarcasm:

A cool down, fine. But an ass-kickin' winter I could do without. Walking around and waiting for the bus in that is not fun at all. People had better shovel their damn walks on the hill I have to walk down on the way to work too. Last year I fell about, oh, 900 times.

And will be tomorrow. But a string of 70s and low 80s is coming up. Even today didn't feel that bad, with the lower humidity and slightly weaker sun.
