Should there be a National DU Convention?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 05:41 PM by ewagner
Think about it....a national DU get-together....maybe a chance for some heavy-duty publicity (the good kind)?????

Spotlight our DUers running for office?

Hear some really good speakers?

....am I completely out of my mind?

on edit: maybe some way of making it PROFITABLE for DU?

Asks the Californian. B-) :hi:

22. yeah! Let's have it in St Louis!!!!
Central location that most people can get to on one plane...I think...American, after getting many tax breaks, has eliminated a lot of flights from St Louis.

I'd go for Chicago too..

If we must how about piggy backing it on the National Dem Convention or the pug CONvention? Or will THAT one be too fascist?

2. That'd be great.
We could coincide it with the Republican Convention in New York. Fuck some shit up.

Maybe rent our own yacht/luxury liner. Fuck that up, too. ;)

5. Actually, I think it's a great idea.
In fairness, a central location should be chosen and I believe a small
charge should be levied to help with the costs.

6. We'd have to make it a paying thing
otherwise it would be a drain on the resources rather than a gain...but I think it woudl be fabulous.

What about Chicago? It's central...

C ya,

9. As much as I love Chicago
I was thinking (gasp) Texas.

Why?

Pretty Central. Warm in January and February (too hot if later in the year) Easy access by CHEAP airfaire (Southwest)

It would piss off a lot of Repubs!

New Orleans would be a good choice but then we'd have to levy an extra fee for bail bond service

since there will be plenty of protests around for us to join in and have fun!!!

11. I vote for that option
if for no other reason than I already planned on going and have my vacation scheduled for it.

Chicago would work, too. ;-)

13. Why not?
This already happened on a number of occasions. We've had more than 20 DUers in the same place at one time and the earth didn't fall off it's axis or anything.

14. there was talk earlier this year
Many of us thought Vegas would be the best choice - cheap flights, vice, and hotels aplenty. Plus, I can drive there in 3 hours or so, so it's my first choice. :D

20. There is some merit to Vegas
it is cheap to fly there....(even from here)

hotels are always offering "packages".

having a lot of DUers in one place is a GREAT idea!

27. I suspect
pissing off Freepers, Repubs and neocons would be the central part of the agenda......

speaking of which...how 'bout these for agenda items:

Press Roundtable with Wolf Blitzer, Chris Mathews, & Judy Woodruff; Subject: Is there such a thing as too much kissing the President's arse?

Pundits Roundtable #2: Alan Colmes, James Carville, Al Franken; subject: COLMES! WTF is wrong with you?

Special Issue Forums:

Forum #1 Candidate bashing 101
Forum #2 How to entice flames for fun and profit.

Special DU Lounge Forums

Forum #1: When grotesque is cool
Forum #2: When in doubt, try Sex....

(of course, all these are in the spirit of good fun, but there are probably some serious issues we could address.)

26. If you like Vegas, and you like Bartcop
We could combine a DU convention with Bartcop's annual drunk-in-Las-Vegas bender.

It'd be a veritable left-wing convention, except with tequila and strippers.
