1. Ok...I was really hoping this wouldn't be the top pick |
|
Will The Manchurian Candidate hold my attention if I have a sinus problem and am heavily medicated?

2. Keph, my nickel says start with "The Manchurian Candidate"... |
|
Some of it will seem a little dated, but the editing is superb, especially in the "garden club" sequences.
This one is truly a classic -- and I'm sure that you've heard that before.
Enjoy -- you've got some good viewing ahead!

4. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind |
|
Bravura filmmaking from tyro helmer George Clooney. He made some very brave risks and most paid off. Sam Rockwell is excellent; even Drew Barrymore is good. It's funny, visually interesting and entertaining all around.

6. Has your Netflix service gotten kinda crappy lately... |
|
I don't know if it's the growing pains, slipping quality of service or the US Mail, but my movies are spending more time in transit over the past month or so. It's kinda irritating. I still love Netflix, but I really, really try to get my money's worth by returning movies quickly, and it's irritating when they take almost a week to arrive back at the plant.

P.S. Manchurian Candidate all the way.

I get films within two days. I have nothing but praise for their service so far.

must be my mail. Maybe I'll drop them off elsewhere. I was doing 2 days with same day turnaround for quite some time (I'm in So. Cal), but lately it's been varying wildly from 2 to 6 days.
I agree, though, it's a wonderful service!

8. In one of your previous polls, I voted for "Equilibrium" |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 08:21 PM by Cleve Steamer
...over the other two options (Adaptation and Auto Focus?). I may have been the only one!
Unfortunately, there's nothing on this list that excites me as much as Equilibrium or even Adaptation.
This time, I went with The Eye (which is actually Thai/Chinese). It's not "great," but you'll get a kick out of it if you like modern Japanese horror like The Ring.
I normally like Takashi Miike's work, but I've been disappointed by all three Dead or Alive movies. However, the first few minutes of the first one are totally insane, in the best possible way.
I haven't seen Bulletproof Monk, but it's supposed to SUCK. And I'm a huge mark for Chow Yun-Fat.

15. While Whale Rider is great... |
|
... I much prefered "Rabbit Proof Fence" for recent down under-style offerings. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend you do! The Peter Gabriel score makes it worthwhile even if you don't care for the rest of the film (which is impossible!). Great film based on a true story.
Of course, that's not to say that Whale Rider wasn't also fantastic!
