Here is a good one. My roofing contractor, a guy who does nothing but quality repair and high-dollar fabrication work with copper, told me his story a few days ago (as his crew tore down then rebuilt my chimney to solve a persitent flashing leak). Rudolph wasn't out on the lamb in the woods the whole time that the FBI combed western NC for the Top-Ten Fugitive. Eric was working as a roofer in the Asheville-Brevard corridor. He worked for my roofer for six months. He worked on a million-dollar house in Connestee Falls, just outside Brevard. Paul showed me the FBI and ATF agents cards with court dates penciled in on the back. Rudolph worked under an alias, of course. John Williams, I think Paul said.

Bwaa haaa haaa haaa. FBI! What a crack bunch.

worked for the bureau once told me that the 'new' FBI couldn't catch a cold!;-)

but the FBI failed 100% in this case.

They told us he was in a cave in the mountains with fundies supplying him. That might have been partially true, but it is now obvious he was out in the open -- a working stiff -- for long periods of his evasion from the law. Has that made the news yet?

7. so your roofer

was employing a member of the FBI's top ten most wanted? wow, that's some due diligence, huh? Rudolph's picture was all over the place. Personally, I'd want a roofer with some attention to detail, or at least one not harbouring a murderer.

10. Are you kidding?

My roofer is the best in western North Carolina. But labor ain't his bag. Roofers' helpers come and go. Go is probably the more operable verb. If the guy can solder copper flashing on a steep pitched roof, what roofing contracter in the world cares what his background is? Very few, believe me.

8. Outside Magazine

did this story where they had this outdoor/survivalist/tracker guy examine one of his supposed hide outs in the woods, one that Rudolph told the FBI about. The guy was doubtful that this was a living area spot, not enough evidence of occupation, etc. It was near a highway. The guy surmised it was nothing but a pick-up spot, a temp. place. It did have an intricate bench made into the ground of inlaid stones, took alot of time to make, maybe he learned that on the job site.

These are the guys who want to tap your phone, read your mail and not be bothered to tell you or justify it.
