I was born in Rantoul (Chanute Air Force Base). And after years and years of moving as a military brat, I graduated from high school in Libertyville. Plus, my mum lives in Vernon Hills and I have brothers in Vernon Hills and Mundelein.

:hi:

P.S. In high school I was called a FIB by Wisconsinites more than once.

50. Another Champaign County Progressive!
How cool! I had no idea you were down here with me! I'm a lifelong resident of the area. (I'm betting we know some folks in common-and we need to talk, scarlet_owl!!) I'm a U of I alum that never quite managed an escape.

I'm thinking we need to organize another DU gathering sometime soon. ChiBurbs has promised me a drink or two at Union Station next time I'm up his way (you better BET I'm gonna collect on THAT!) and I've been dying to meet the rest of the Chicago contingent as well.

It is so cool to find out how many of us there are on here!

54. Some folks think Illinois stops at I-80.
For others, it ends North of Kankakee somewhere! ;)

I dunno, Chicago has more to do, but you can go from top to bottom of the state in about 4 hours on interstate... In an ideal world, I'd say Chicago (simply so I could hit Filene's basement this season!) but that distance might be an issue for some.

Since I-80 seems to be the line--who do we have around there and is there a place we can sit and have pizza and beer--or beer and beer--or egg rolls and beer--or maybe just beer...there is a theme here.

I'm willing to drive pretty much anywhere to meet DUers. Shoot I go to FunDay every year up in Saginaw just to see the Michigan contingent! One suggestion--maybe be sure it is near a train station for those who don't drive?

49. Watch It! I'm Sensitive About That!
Just kidding, course.

There's over 800,000 in Will County. There are only a few "small" towns left. Depends on one's definition of small, i guess.

I'm in Wilmington, which is around 5500 people and is between I55 and I57 about 18 miles south of Joliet. (Equidistant between Joliet and Kankakee) We're about 75 minutes from downtown Chicago. (Not at rush hour of course. Then, it's about 3 and half hours!)

55. Howdy!
ILLINOIS

"By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois,
O'er thy prairies verdant growing, Illinois, Illinois,
Comes an echo on the breeze.
Rustling through the leafy trees, and its mellow tones are these, Illinois, Illinois,
And its mellow tones are these, Illinois.

From a wilderness of prairies, Illinois, Illinois,
Straight thy way and never varies, Illinois, Illinois,
Till upon the inland sea,
Stands thy great commercial tree, turning all the world to thee, Illinois, Illinois,
Turning all the world to thee, Illinois.

When you heard your country calling, Illinois, Illinois,
Where the shot and shell were falling, Illinois, Illinois,
When the Southern host withdrew,
Pitting Gray against the Blue, There were none more brave than you, Illinois, Illinois,
There were none more brave than you, Illinois.

Not without thy wondrous story, Illinois, Illinois,
Can be writ the nation's glory, Illinois, Illinois,
On the record of thy years,
Abraham Lincoln's name appears, Grant and Logan, and our tears, Illinois, Illinois,
Grant and Logan, and our tears, Illinois."

Note: Had to memorize it in 8th grade for a visit by former Gov Edgar.
