There's a minister in my apartment... |
|
Looks like I'm going to have to have a word with one of my roomies.
The man seems decent enough, and from the little I can hear, he's discussing the whole "easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle" thing right now, which I agree with to some degree. However, I would've appreciated some warning before walking in to find someone talking about Jesus.

1. So, was he invited by the roommate as a friend? Or is it a door to door |
|
guy?
If it's a friend of your roomie (or her/his minister, or somehow known by roomie), then so be it - that's the way things go when you have roommates - they invite people over.
If she/he just invited a street/door to door preacher guy, then you have a right to complain and say "Hey, don't do that."

listening. Otherwise, this would be a good time to ask any questions that really bug you or something!

4. Well, they do let us roam freely every once in a while. |
|
I don't mean to sound rude, but have you considered that maybe they weren't too thrilled to see you, either?

17. You can come to my house anytime! |
|
We'll discuss what the UMC can do to make it an even better place to worship. You'd be so proud-I attended service last Sunday and everything! My kid is making health kits tomorrow night too.

18. That's WONDERFUL news!! |
|
The health kits are so easy to do, and there's something so meaningful about the physical work of assembling the project.
And, thank you. Something tells me that I'd enjoy your house very much. :)

I attend service as often as I can (yep-Methodist here but I don't agree w/ some of the people at my church). At my house, we could discuss church, football(big Packer fan here) and cook some brats. I could also show you pics of my Aunt Peggy (who I swear you look like!) And she is loving the health kits. Perfect project for the kindergarteners to do. She really wants to help out right now.

"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
A line which should be shared with Halliburton, IMO.

7. Funny thing about the "eye of the needle" |
|
The Eye of the Needle was the nickname for the entrygate to Old Jerusalem...and when traders entered in with their camels, they would have to unpack everything, guide the camel in and then pack it back up...
Basically the saying has a double meaning, saying that you must be willing to give up everything....

8. Yes, but according to the 21st Century Fundie translation, that verse |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 03:12 PM by ET Awful
refers to a gate into Jerusalem which was called the Needle's Eye by the residents. . . . no, I'm serious. . . I've actually been told this by Frundies (Frundies = Freeper Fundies) :)

9. But even with that definition |
|
You have to unpack your camel, meaning the rich man has to give away all his $$$...and Jesus tells rich people to do just that many times....

11. This was the same Frundie that told me "turn the other cheek" |
|
meant to get into a boxing stance and turn the left cheek to the person that struck you so you can better defend the cheek he just struck and retaliate more easily. . . . :)

12. Well, if you want to throw them for a loop - |

tell them the Hebrew word that was translated "Camel" is actually better translated as "Rope." (That's the truth) Let that fuck with their minds.
