2. I had a dream...
I was walking along a road. I saw a person coming nearer to me, when I realized it was my mom! I ran up to her and gave her a big hug. I was so happy to see her...then I woke up and I miss her all over again.

6. It gets easier, but you'll always miss her
I lost my mom in 1987, so I sort of know what you're going through. I don't dream about her as often as I used to, but when I do, I find it comforting; at least I can see her that way.

Hang in there - you have lots of friends here!

5. Broken Clock
The other night I was invited out for a night with "the boys". I told my wife that I would be home by midnight ..promise!

Well, the hours passed and the beer was going down way too easy. At around 2:30 a.m., drunk as a skunk, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, I realized she'd probably wake up, so I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself, having a quick-witted solution, even when smashed, to escape a possible conflict.

The next morning my wife asked me what time I got in, and I told her twelve o'clock. She didn't seem disturbed at all. Whew! Got away with that one!

She then told me that we needed a new cuckoo clock.

When I asked her why, she said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said "oh shit," cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then farted."

10. Sorry about your mom.

I know, you want cheering up, but I can't think of any jokes right now.

But perhaps I can offer a little comfort. I lost my dad in 1977. He was 43. I still miss him, and sometimes I will see someone who looks like him, or hear a song that reminds me of him (he played guitar and sang as a hobby), and I feel a wave of pain as if I just lost him. But I can promise you this -- while you will never completely get over it, as time goes by, you will find yourself smiling more at memories of her. You will probably still cry now and then, but the pain really does ease over time, and you can smile, even laugh, at some of the things you remember.

For me and my siblings and my mom, we often crack each other up by standing up, putting our hands in our pockets, pulling up our pants while rocking back on our heels, and saying "Welp." (Dad-speak for "well".) It puts us on the floor with laughter. And another thing that cracks us up is that dad used to wear cowboy boots, and every single time he stood up, one pantleg always got caught in the top of his boot -- always one pantleg, never two. To "outsiders", these things may not be funny, but to the family, they can bring gales of laughter, and warm memories.

Again, I'm sorry about your mom. And if I think of a joke to cheer you up, I'll send it to you. In the meantime, please feel free to PM me if you want. We don't know each other, but we definitely have something in common.
