Aside from all country, hip-hop and rap: The Beatles and Supertramp. I can't stand anything done by either band. Who do you guys hate that is widely loved throughout the world?

75. hey, you ain't got a thang
if you ain't got twang. Springsteen and Seger took some getting used to for me, but I liked them lyrically and musically. Truth to tell, I might hate the Stones and Zepellin even if they did have different singers. The opening bars of "start me up" inspire revulsion in me, but that could because I know Mick is about to start. Besides not liking Robert Plant at all, I do not care for Zepellin muscially or lyrically. I do not even like songs by other groups that sound like Zepellin, like Def Leppard's "Bringing on the heartache" or Journey's "Wheel in the sky" and I usually like both of those groups, even when Steve Perry is singing.

Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 12:41 PM by WeRQ4U
Hum, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr., Mogwai, Tool, Supergrass, Sunny Day Real Estate, Dovetail Joint, At the Drive In, Refused, Tripping Daisies, Spacehog, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc.

I also listen to James Taylor, Manhattan Transfer, the Rev. Donnie McClurkin, Indigo Girls, Harry Conick Jr., Jamie Cullum, Frank Sinatra (LOVE Him),etc.

I like a lot of different music and I really can't pigeon-hole my tastes, but I just never got into those "Classic rock" and "jam" bands. I cannot bear listening to any of them (String Cheese, Leftover, PHish, Moe etc.) None of them appeal to me, even though, living in Oregon, It seemed as though I heard them all, all the time.

How about you; what type of stuff do you listen to?

42. I am a music whore.
I like all kinds of groups and singers, and sometimes end up singing something I hate just because it's on the radio.
Don't know much, can't sing for shit, but I'll listen to almost anything.

I love Sinatra, too (thanks, Dad). And James Taylor. Patsy Cline. Cole Porter songs. Pretenders. Dixie Chicks. Roxy Music. Roy Orbison, Johnny Mathis, Four Tops. I could go on all day. Once in a while I'll even go for classical music.

I have to admit that I do like a lot of "classic" rock, though, including the early days of rock 'n' roll, and I like some of the folky stuff of the '60s.

What do I hate? Madonna. Carpenters. Anything headbanger.

Unfortunately, I'm lost in a time warp and not very aware of newer music except what my sons play (I like a lot of it, but I don't know what it is).

I don't know some of the names in your first sentence -- I think I'm older than you, perhaps. I'll have to check them out.

I don't understand your dislike, but to each their own.

I don't like most rap, even from rappers who are loved (LL Cool J, Jay-Z)

I don't like some of the corporate rock, a la Staind, Linkin' Park, and Creed.

Some heavy metal (Kittie, Pantera, death metal in general)

I don't like most of Bjork's stuff, and I usually

Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff, and Jessica Simpson annoy me

B*Witched sounds as childish as those kiddie albums I had

I'm drawing blanks, but the list is a lot longer than this. I am the quintessential music listener. I've been glued to the radio during all of my waking hours for thirty years. College radio, not repetitive crap. So I have a pretty fucking open mind. BTW, you'll notice that the Greatful Dead are purposefully omitted from any and all college radio programming. If that isn't testament to their suckness, I don't know what is. Having said that, I own Mars Hotel, which I like, but no deadheads like. Go figure. blablabla....

edit- I suppose not like the Dead disqualifies me from being a poster at DU. I have a feeling everyone here loves them.

69. I can't say I HATE any band (except for some nu-metal)...
but it seems that everyone in the world is gaga over Metallica, Radiohead and the Smiths. I don't hate them (in fact, Morrissey is a pretty good songwriter IMO), but they are FAR, FAR from being my favorites. I'll go on record as saying that I like a lot of the most hated bands/singers here, including Supertramp, Billy Joel, Styx, the Eagles, REO Speedwagon, Bruce Springsteen, Yes, Genesis w/Phil Collins, and Def Leppard. I can honestly say I loathe Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park (and probably most bands of their genre). And as far as I'm concerned, those who diss Elvis and/or the Beatles are akin to Freepers, in my book.

he sold out, went christian, played corporate merger parties, grew a stupid moustache, and tried to pretend there were no politcal themes ever in his music to justify his selling out
