Is "cool" still cool?
I remember being of such an age that I could recognize a person who had reached such "mature" status as to be considered dorky, by observing their language use (it could be a fine line, sometimes.) These were the people who didn't realize that saying "totally awesome," and "radical" were no longer acceptable. Now that I'm not quite as immersed in the pop culture as I once was, I wonder if I sound like a geek saying "cool" fairly liberally. Anyone know if "cool" is still a socially valid adjective? Help me out, here, kids!

2. I have seen old movies made as far back as the 40"s where
the word "cool" was used. It seems to be the one slang word that has never gone out of style. Even though there were other slang words used that had the same meaning, "cool" was also still used. I've used it since I was a teenager, and everyone, no matter what their age was, knew what I meant.

4. That's what I was hoping.
I've gotta be down with the young people. Granted-- I still probably qualify as a "young" person-- but sometimes I just feel so...old.
:nopity:

5. Thanks, Doll!
I pretty much thought I was painfully cool, but it's good to have validation!

On a side note; isn't there an "I'm being a dork" emoticon? Because I really need one, and the sarcasm emoticon just doesn't always quite fit.

9. Cool is a state of mind that transends generational
or stylistic boundries....

Jack Kerouac was cool.....

Benny Goodman was cool....

Miles Davis was cool.....

And, WCGReen is the coolllest cat around......

Psstt.... Just don;t say groovy.... Kids don;t like that much....

Although I still drop it now and then just for the reaction.....

10. According to Dr. E.R. Bloomquist:
There are "four states of being" that relate to this topic: "Cool, Groovy, Hip & Square", in that descending order. "The square is seldom if ever cool. He is 'not with it,' that is, he doesn't know 'what's happening.' But if he manages to figure it out, he moves up a notch to 'hip.' And if he can bring himself to approve of what's happening, he becomes 'groovy.' And after that, with much luck and perseverence, he can rise to the rank of 'cool.'"

:P

15. Is there like a quiz I can fill out for this?
I'm not sure which stage I am.:P

On second thought-- there probably IS a quiz. And I'm not up for academics at the moment. There's no coffee in this craphole.

12. We live in a post-cool universe. MTV manufactures cool for profit.
The only residual part of cool left is a generalized disdain for "stuff" that some teenagers affect. Everything else is boring.

14. In the right context, the reverse of that phrase
could still be appreciated. The former is defunct, though, yes.
