Poll question: How many here are without power? |
|
D'oh!
Okay let me rephrase that: right now hundreds of thousands of Midwesterners are without power because of the high winds. Two months ago, Hurricane What's-Its-Face knocked out power in the Mid-Atlantic. In the middle of the summer millions more had power knocked out by the Great Blackout of 2003.
It's enough to make one go, hmmmm, isn't it? What do you think all these outages mean?

4. It means that power companies aren't reinvesting as they should |
|
Probably because in too many places, they are under pressure to show big profits, rather than provide good service. That's all well and good in a Capitalist economy, but it's not like I can just call up the power company's competitor and switch, can I?
Publicly-owned power generation should be the norm. It is not, unfortunately.
And you know, it's just like everything else in America nowdays. Eating our seed corn...

5. My lights just dimmed-I'm in Boston |

We are expecting 60 MPH gusts and the possibility of downed power lines and trees. The infrastructure here has always had a difficult time with storms. Whenever we have winds like this, thousands lose power. I'm sure the Repubs will use this as a way of forcing the taxpayer to fund the rebuilding of the grid so their cronies can get rich of the subsequent inflated rates for electricity.
