1. I voted "and there was much rejoicing"
however I would have liked to have seen a "meh" option along with a "heh". :P

(Nothing personal.)

4. The question is, how do you feel?
I mean, you started that fantastic failure of a thread. We just kept it going to give you hope, 'cause we like you. Well, some of us might like you. Or at least tolerate you.

7. Most days, it's pretty damned awful to be this close to myself.
However I appreciate the sentiment and tolerance of my fellow DUers.

The way I feel about the demise of the thread is ambivalence. It was an honor that the ballooning popularity of the thread drew such an overwhelming and almost cult-like following. But I feel that the thread had done what it was intended to do: gaze at its own navel in an amusing way.

9. That it did!
Don't worry, though. We won't forget it. Gone, but not forgotten.

6. "and there was much rejoicing..."
I am relieved, personally. The thread started as an expression of angst as existantialist humor. Then it evolved into a vanity thread for those who wanted to make it so. (Nothing wrong with that.) Then it became a stone around the Lounge's neck.

A certain sense of relief overcomes me now that I know that thread will not greet me every time I check into the Lounge for a laugh.

8. Do you worry that this one will mimic it?
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 04:11 PM by felonious thunk
perhaps it wasn't really a cult of the thread that wouldn't die, but a cult of ozymandius. Perhaps the thread was merely the manifestation of the wayward souls of the DU Lounge, searching for that illusive something - and now that the thread has left us, that these souls will gravitate toward you, ozymandius.

12. I doubt it.
Yesterday, I started a thread in GD that was intended to impress the thought if a Democratic supermajority. Despite my name being attached to it, the thing only garnered four responses. I've lost track of how far it descended in the GD pages and I've been too lazy to do a search for it.

16. I've had similiar luck in GD
apparently you need to say mean things about Dean, Clark or Kucinich to get high post counts there.

11. If you must know...
... the movie thread that I started about 2-3 weeks ago (when the forever thread was only at about 600 posts or so) was designed initially to try to unseat that post as the most elephantine-sized one in the lounge (just to see if it could be done). But it pooped out at about 400 posts or so...But it was fun to play while it lasted.

I think 1187 is a total that will not be surpassed in quite awhile. Kinda like Joe DiMaggio's consecutive game hitting streak...

13. Congratulations On Your Prodigious Thread
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 04:18 PM by cryingshame
Prodigious- so great in size or force or extent as to elicit awe; "colossal crumbling ruins of an ancient temple"; "has a colossal nerve"; "a prodigious storm"; "a stupendous field of grass"; "stupendous demand"

:toast:

May it rest in peace.

15. It had to be killed. It wasn't for lack of interest...
That thread could have gone for months.

I wonder if that would mess up the DU database having so many messages in one thread. That's probably why they had to kill it... There has to be a limit.

17. Deeply, horrible depressed
That thread was a lifeline for me.

I even brought it up at my weekly shrink appointment (yes, she thinks I'm barking mad, especially for the amount of time I spend on here).

It was an old friend I got to see every day.

It was a place for my to pour my angst and frustrations and do little harm.

But now it's gone.

I killed it.

:(

I had a look. I poured out my grief at the demise of the sex threads and I guess it was just too much and they killed it.

I'm sorry.

I'll go quietly now.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
