anybody watch "What would you do?" on Primetime ABC last
night? I was flipping channels while watching ER and got caught up in the scenario with the abusive boyfriend pushing and aggressively making the girlfriend stay seated. I was appalled at the small percentage of people who stopped to intervene, and found it interesting the gender break up. Out of 100 women, 14 stopped, and out of 92 men, I think 7 or 8 stopped? I wonder why this is, maybe men are more likely to think they would be drawn into a physical challenge, and/or are more likely to find the abusive behavior acceptable. One large man stopped by tv crew was asked why he didn't intervene. He said he was an off-duty cop and since she wasn't being physically abused technically he "couldn't do anything" (the boyfriend would grab her face, hold her down by the shoulders, classic signs of abuse, cop should know this. plus the verbal abuse was apparent).

The next scenario was going to involve the girlfriend being in the abusive role, but I switched back to ER, and am curious to hear how that scene went?
