No, I never DID like that song. In fact, the only Village People song I like is the ever popular "Y.M.C.A." In fact, DJ's STILL play that song at clubs sometimes.

Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 06:21 AM by Prag
Hey, I was a kid. I had no idea what they were
talking about! I thought they sounded kind of excited, but,
I didn't listen to lyrics in those days. I bought it
for the music.

Most of my early listenage was inherited from my older
cousins.

My folks set me straight by getting me a "Kinks" album.

15. Dick Clark's "20 Years of Rock & Roll"
A double album (!!!) with one song per year from 1955 to 1975 (I think). A few years later, it struck me that it was odd that this historic set didn't include anything by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, etc. Had some good stuff on it... Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser" and Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" come to mind.

There's a great quote about Johnny's guitarist Luther Perkins that I can't quite recall. Somthing about how, as lead guitarist, Luther would basically play one figure repeatedly (like on "I Walk The Line") while other Nashville cats were much flashier. When asked about this, I believe Luther's response was "Those other guys are lookin' for it. I found it."

I was in the 5th grade, I think. Saved my allowance for a couple of weeks, walked to the Fred Meyer store barefooted in summer and got big ol' blisters on the bottom of my feet. It was worth it. Not only was it the first album I bought with my own money, it was the first "stereo" record I owned. I had some others that my parents had gotten me that were hi-fi.
