3. Let us know what you get to replace that Ipod...am waiting to find the
right gadget to take on the road. I think a laptop is too much, so have been using a notebook for mobile notes.

6. iPods are not like a pda....
mostly, they're a hard drive with an audio out. They're a back-up device that plays music, or a music device that can be used as an external hard drive.

I use a Handspring Visor with a stowaway keyboard when I can't take my laptop, but those are almost obsolete. However, there are a lot of options for small pdas and such.... I love my visor and won't part with it, but I'm silly.

You might look into a Palm V - they're way down in price, and I'll give you a keyboard for it - I picked one up by mistake.

11. He's a Figurehead on the Board of Directors
And how can you be a young man in the US and not be totally wired to computers? Isn't that illegal now??

I learned programming way back in the 80s on Trash80s. I wrote a game in Assembler called "Booger Hunter." SO learned by hacking games so he could cheat.

5. John, Don't Panic!!!!
Mine did that too, it worked for a week and died. Made clicking sounds and wouldn't boot.

Here's the key thing you have to understand about computer hardware - if it is going to fail, it is going to fail in the first few days of use. 99% accurate on that - I worked for Motorola while in college and grad school and learned that the hard way.

It's a manufacturing defect. Apple will replace easy cheezy no questions asked. It happens. My sister had the same sort of problem with her Rio.

This is what happens when we produce millions of these devices. While each component probably hits 6 sigma (meaning 1 defect in 3.4 million), when you start adding 3 or 4 hundred components together.... the odds get smaller pretty fast.

Take a breath, calm down. You're in an elite club. Not many people do have problems at all.

Best,

Politicat.
