I'm a fan of The Darkness, says Blair (oh dear)
"yah vote for me kids, cos' I'm like really down with your music." :eyes:

Is Phoney B:liar a bandwagon jumping twat or what?

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/story.jsp?story=463538

The Prime Minister staked a claim for credibility with the kids yesterday when he told a school class in French that he was really into the rock band the Darkness.

Tony Blair told children at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Secondary School in Southwark, south London, that whenever he dipped into his children's CD collections, he went straight for the Lycra-clad Suffolk rockers.

Unfortunately the Blair seal of approval is less than coveted in musical circles. Gallagher later expressed regret over his band's relationship with the Prime Minister. Damon Albarn of Blur has also recently expressed doubts about being "used" by the Prime Minister.

And by last year, "Booga" Fowell of Ezio was also bemoaning the Blair curse. "It was a massive compliment at the time, but it means we may for ever be associated with Tony Blair ... and that's not great for your credibility," he said.

1. Sad Twat!
Not another fückin attempt by Blair's PR machine to make him look hip. Everyone who isn't locked up in a loony bin knows Blair is a wänker. This information is a total wate of ink and paper. The journalist who wrote the piece needs a good kicking. Tool of the rich, that's all I can say.

2. Of course, he's a fan of The Darkness...
...after all, the Prince of it, who is visiting England this week, is one of his best friends...

4. As emad alluded to...

...Blair already has his own "prince of darkness" in the form of Peter Mandelson, a very close confidante of the PM who has done more than anyone else to build up the "new" labour culture of spin & decit, who has had to resign twice due to scandal.

Mind you, isn't Perle known by the same title? And is he being brought along for good luck?

5. OK Brits. What's with The Darkness?
Aren't they just Def Leppard or worse, Saxon?

6. hell no
The Darkness is absolutely awesome Kitch rock. It's loud, bombastic, over-the-top classic rock with a lead singer who can howl like it's nobody's business.

I love this band.

:)

8. So, they are actually sending it up, right?
Seems pretty serious to me.

9. New York Dolls. Now there was a kitch band if ever....
Absolutely knock the spots off Darkness. They did this gig on the roof garden of Biba's in Kensington in '73 and all the flamingoes were dyed a deep cerise for the occasion. One of them escaped and was found floating on its back next day in the Serpentine in Hyde Park.

And what about the Ramones? Joey R always seemed like no rock kitch deviant to me...

10. yeah, but that was like...20 years ago
To be able to do kitch now takes talent. Everyone is always so serious and everyone always wants to look cool.

That's why I love the Darkness and especially their video for "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" because it's so stupid, it's funny. And I actually like the music because it's played really well.

Plus, the lead singer is ugly. And under the Chapter VIII, paragraph XII of the Rock and Roll charter, any lead singer who is ugly automatically has to have a great singing voice.

Please see Journey and Nickelback for more information. :)

11. Please don't see Nickleback. Ever.
There was a great interview in my local paper (Calgary Herald) last week with Chad from the 'back. He said 'well on the last tour we had 40 foot flashpots, so this tour it's gotta be 60 foot flashpots. If you like meat and potatoes rawk, we're serving up a monster helping!'
I paraphrase. But not by much.

12. I don't like Nickelback, personally
but I think Chad Krueger had a good voice for a lead singer.

7. The Darkness strike me as a 'pastiche' kinda' band.
Perfect for a pastiche kinda' guy. They are to hair metal what Kings of Leon are to southern rock, here -- a very, very good semi-parody band that's not too hard on the ears if you liked the style of music they're sending up.

And Blair is a very, very good parody of a statesman who's not too hard on the eyes.

I can see what he admires about them. They're really all playing the same gig, right?
