My life sucks donkey dicks

What a week. First, I lost out on a job at a newspaper I've dreamt of working for since I was in college, a goal 10 years in the making. Everything I've done over the first 8 years of my career had been geared toward working there.

Then I find out that the guy I lost out to got the job basically b/c he was a minority. The editor himself told me that, which kind of surprised me. Apparently, they're under a lot of heat to up their minority hiring. I'm fine with that. Even though he's not as experienced as I am and not as qualified, I think maintaining diversity in newsrooms is very important so I'm going to walk the walk and not get upset about that part of it. I wish him well.It actually made me feel a little bit better knowing I didn't get it b/c I wasn't qualified or talented enough. The bottom line is that openings at this paper are few and far between. It could be another 10 years before something comes open. Prior to this, they hadn't had an opening for 6 years.

Then, at my current job, we have a new publisher who is basically Stalin on crack. He's re-arranging our operation and long story short, Im basically going to have to work 6, and in some cases, 7 days a week with NO POSSIBILITY of ever having 2 days off consecutively. What's worse, Sundays are now off the table which means no more NFL, one of my great passions in life.

Anyway, that's my rant. Not the end of the world I guess, but when a dream dies, it dies hard. Know what I mean?
