Crap, my alma mater received cash from Halliburton |
|
I received the annual President's report yesterday and as I read through corporate contributors there was Halliburton, big as day. They fit into the 10k to 24,999k category.
I am saddened; I am embarrassed. I suppose its not surprising - we are only a few hours from Houston, a small private Lutheran school. Highly rated in the region, Halliburton probably recruits on campus. Its been 14 years since I graduated and I didn't got to the recruitment fairs then so I can't say - but it is sad to see that.
I will need to write a letter to school saying I am saddened to see they accepted that money, but I am on shakey ground there - I have never been in a position where I felt I could contribute to the school...
So, DU, what should I say to the director of corporate development?

1. Did Halliburton provide matching funds? |
|
If a big donor to your school works for Halliburton, it's possible that Halliburton will make a matching donation. (When my husband was at his old job, they made matching contributions on behalf of any employee, up to $500 or $1,000 I think.)
$10,000 sounds like a lot, though. I'd withhold judgement until you know more. It could be as simple as a big match.

2. It could be worse - I graduated from Texas A&M |
|
Home of the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library. Former CIA Director Gates is president of the university. Phil Gramm used to be on the faculty.
I'm sure all sorts of petroleum companies fund research at A&M because of its excellent petroleum engineering program. Likewise the nasty agri-business companies.
So, it could be worse.
Are we talking Texas Lutheran College here? In lovely Seguin? :-)

3. Now TLU, dontcha know? |
|
(Dontcha know) Thats the Minnesota in me coming out. Went to University to follow the competition )Incarnate Word College in San Antiono went to University of Incarnate Word and TLC felt they needed to grab the U, too. Yes, good ol' Texas Lutheran. Not to slam the Aggies too hard, but ya kinda expect them to have those oil partners. State schools have a pretty varied record. Its a shock to see my little school in bed with Hallibutt.
Were you at aTm when Marooned Records was there?

5. I forgot TLC is now TLU. |
|
Are there any TLU alumni that are high up in the Halliburton food chain? UIW just sounds wrong. I remember their old ad campaign: "THE COLLEGE". I guess that's gone forever now.
I was at A&M in the late 80s. I graduated in 1990. Marooned Records doesn't ring a bell.

but I was in social sciences and can't say I would've crossed paths with the future Hallibutt types.
The College - remember Roger Staubach whoring for them, and using his daughter in the ad, too? Free tuition and some walking around money for Rog...
Marooned was early 90s through about 96, I think. Started by the folks that brought San Antonio Hogwild - one of the finest independent record stores on the planet.

6. Eh...git yer kicks in now... |

In a couple of years, look out!
Actually the more painful loss was the game 3 years ago when OU won it all. We had you guys beat, until a late INT. THAT was painful. This loss ceased to cause pain after halftime.
