Whatever happened to the Minolta?

It was a popular camara back in the days when everybody used film. Some Minoltas had been passed down from generations.

But I haven't seen many around anymore. Does anyone own a Minolta? Is it digital? How old is it if it's not digital?

2. Looks like they merged with Konica
yes, they are making digital cameras. Hard to imagine they'd be in business any more if they weren't. ;)

3. Minolta X-700 for 13 years and I love it. I've never gone digital
because to get that kind of photo quality in digital is more than I want to spend.

4. " From The Mind of Minolta "
I just remember that tagline.

"Only from the mind of Minolta"

Sounds like a 50s sci fi flick.

5. We've got a 35+ year old Minolta here.
Awesome pictures.
as far as digital goes I use a Sony Mavica. Love the options and result I've gotten. The new sony cyber-shot looks like an awesome upgrade.

7. My only camera is a Minolta Freedom Zoom
I've had it about 10 years, because I think I purchased it before an Alaskan trip in summer '95. Looks like it's hinting to me it's ready to rest, and time for me to go digital. The zoom feature started working erratically last May, ironically during an Alaskan cruise. Now the zoom doesn't work at all. I've been checking out that review site, Steve's Digicams or something like that, for clues on my first digital.

8. They still make both film and digital SLR cameras. Still high quality
just not as visible as Canon and Nikon. Canon seems to have become the most visible brand among professional photographers.

I use Nikon myself, but I've considered switching to Minolta because of some unique features they have in their digital SLR's that aren't available anywhere else :).

9. Thanks for the reminder .....

I have a nice Minolta. I need to take the battery out of it so it won't corrode, if it hasn't started to already. I haven't touched it since I got my digicam about two years ago.

10. I love my Nikon FM, but the old SRT models were very well built
At one time Minolta made a rangefinder model that could use Leica lenses, very collectable and extremely well built

11. I still have a 35mm Minolta I got in high school
When I took photography. It's almost purely mechanical, nothing automatic about it. It takes better pictures than any camera I've had since.

13. I have two Minoltas and I love them both. I am considering
a Minolta digital.

If I ever go SLR Digital, then I will get a Minolta because the lens mounts match.

One of my 35mm is 23 years old and has the heavy metal body; it is called "The Albatross"; my other one is about 5 years old and weighs considerably less. It is called " The Hawk"

I think the digital will be called "Hummingbird"

16. I have a 1989 Minolta FreedomTele
Got it for my 22nd birthday that year. Still going strong. I have taken it thousands of miles with me, and it has taken thousands of pictures. It has a 38mm lens and telephoto capability at 80mm. I will keep using it until it dies.

Nini has a Canon digital, so I have no need to go digital as long as she has that, and my Minolta keeps going.

Edited on Sun Oct-02-05 10:09 PM by BamaGirl
We both have Nikons, and he has a Bronica and two other Minoltas, a Maxxum 9000 and 800si, and I have a Pentax. We both prefer the Minoltas. I may buy a digital after Christmas. I'm not giving up trying to talk him into giving me his Maxxum 9000 though lol.
