My cats did just fine, and we were CRAMPED in the cab of the uhaul truck. I sprayed feliway on the bedding in their cat carriers every day, made sure they had lots of fresh food and water. They were out of their carriers about 1/2 the time each day, but after about 4 hours, they seemed to be glad to be back in the carriers, as the truck was loud and vibrated a lot on the road.
Whenever I stopped, I would give them lots of attention, feed them and give them treats. My vet gave me kitty tranquilizers, which I gave them each morning, but they didn't really seem to need them, and the meds only last a few hours anyway.
My brother and his family just moved from AZ to MI with two cats and a 3 year old daughter. Their cats just had comfy places to sleep in the car (a cat bed for one, a pile of clothes for the other), and seemed to be fine as well.
If you are stopping at hotels, they will probably be restless, checking the place out. Make sure it's dark and quiet to keep them calm. Mine did fine in the two motels I stayed at, but hated my aunt's house that I stayed at one night, because it was bright and loud, even though they were in a closed-off room. Well, and having a dog barking outside the door didn't help, either, I'm sure.
That's about it. My cats did really, really well. Much better than I thought they would, since they are older (14 and 10). I just made sure I kept things as calm as possible for them, and gave them lots of attention.
Good luck on your move!
