I almost totally screwed up a class project because I couldn't get a number to enter into the data table component thingy of ARCVIEW. I kept typing it in, and it kept disappearing. None of the teachers knew what was going on. Finally someone figured out that you have to press RETURN for the data to take. :(

Prior to the music, I was in telecommunications for 8 years as a network engineer. Then Worldcom took over and I was one of the many who got laid off  Playing music was suppossed to be temporary. 7 years later, I'm still playing at restaurants. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of playing music for a living. Music is supposed to be fun. I'm tired all the time. Just fucking tired of it all. Sorry.

Adult school ESL ( english as second language ) program.

The district pays us crumbs, laid us off, brought us back minus hour and benefits. But all I need/want is parttime work and the working conditions are beyond easy.( Coworkers and bosses are great, AND BLUE, so you can imagine how the conversations flow. ) It's less than a mile from my home and the students' end of quarter potlucks are fabulous.

I consider myself lucky.

And in every job, i find the supervisor does not want to actually

that sounds like fun. Telling college kids why they'll get drunk faster on port than regular wine, and then trying to sell the most expensive bottle to a rich snob five minutes later... with the occasional weirdo like me coming in and asking if you have mead.
Which my local wine shop does. :)

64. Awesome job!
I had an ear infection about 6 years ago. My balance was completely off, and I was so sick to my stomache. No insurance, and besides I loathe the doctors office. Anyhow, I went to the supermarket to look for some sweet oil or something.....anything!

I was looking around in the natural remedy aisle and this woman walked up and noticed I looked like I was in pain, she said she could help me. So I followed her to her house.........I know...I know, could have been dangerous but at the time I was in such pain I didnt care much if she planned to chop my ears off. Anyhow, a sign on her front door said "all welcome, clothing optional" I thought...groovy, Im in good company :) LOL!
It was the first time I had been introduced to Reiki while she did an ear candling (sp) it was very relaxing and helped a lot! I didn't have to go to the doctor and I was feeling better within a couple days.

Thought I'd share :)

90. Thank you for sharing! Reiki is really remarkable. I don't even
have to activate the energy most of the time. I do a lot of healing for myself, my kids, my pets, my friends and a few clients. When I heal it's a kick because others are in awe of the results and it just makes me grin a whole bunch. Like you, I don't have health insurance and personally this works out just great. I also very often use crystals in conjunction with Reiki.

Meanwhile, I have a friend who is also a Reiki Master and is also a surgical nurse. A few months ago there was a kid that came into the emergency room of our local hospital with a broken arm and they couldn't get the bone in place. She put hands on, and it healed spontaneously. Xrays proved it. There are several doctors and nurses at the hospital that are now being attuned to Reiki. :)

I adore selling crystals and minerals, and most of my customers are the nicest people on this planet. :)

I do freelance VO work as well. My specialty is doing very authentic foreign accents. October is a heavy month for me, actually, since I get requests to record Halloween related commercials for retailers using my Eastern European-cum-Translyvanian accent. I've also recorded a few books on tape as well.

59. Work in a lime plant
for those who have no friggin' idea what I'm talking about, we burn lime out of limestone and sell it to various steel companies, as well as making granules for a large shingle company. I'll bet you have some on your house. It's a Union shop and pays the bills, but it ain't the best job by a long shot. I deal with heavy equipment and semis on a regular basis. "Jack of all trades, master of none". That's me.

Etc?

I have been both encouraged and strongly warned about it... I have a masters in English and cannot think of any usual 'jobs' I really want, but I would like healthcare, retirement, and the opportunity to share my knowledge/enthusiasm with others... teaching seems like a good fit, but many people, including my two former high school English teachers, have told me it's no longer 'worth it' and that they wouldn't go back to teaching no matter what.

That's why I asked. :)

121. Journalist (writer/editor); officially retired after 45 years but...
my Social Security pension is so tiny I will have to work until I drop dead: hence I freelance. But I am limited to the smallest publications: due to a civil rights arrest approximately three years into my career (charged with "disorderly conduct" but acquitted), I have been blacklisted from the mainstream press since the early 1960s. Thus despite several significant scoops (including one major national story) and many awards and commendations, I never made it out of the bush leagues -- nor even onto a journal with retirement benefits. From the '70s onward it was obvious this would be my fate, but I kept at the work because I loved it (still do!) -- that and the fact I had no choice: the skill-mix that makes a good reporter -- especially the requisite iconoclasm -- is notably unwelcome anywhere else in the ever-more-conformist workplace.

153. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
Been in this field for 15 years. For awhile, I was also a District Manager at my last company, but while I absolutely loved the people in my district, I hated all the corporate BS that came with the job. Ended up getting really burned out. Then someone from the company I am now at contacted me and asked me to come to work with him, so I did. Now I'm "just" a VRC, and it's much better!

Also worked in Alcohol/Drug treatment centers.
Worked as a secretary/admins assistant/manuscript typist.
The assorted fast food jobs when I was younger.

And if I absolutely had to work (which right now I do), but money was not a concern, I would bus tables. No kidding. That was my first "real" job after babysitting, picking beans and strawberries, etc., and I found it to be strangely meditative. Yeah, I'm weird, but what the heck?

202. Bagging was stressful
I was a cashier at a grocery store this summer but had to do carryout half the time so I did my share of bagging. I actually enjoyed it more than cashiering because I actually got to walk around and would end up making more money (even though I was supposed to be making more as a cashier than a bagger!) bagging because I would get the occasional tip. It was stressful though, especially with the customers who were very anal about how they wanted their stuff bagged, and when I had to do carryout in 98-degree temperatures.
