The 20 year curse cycle: It's Bush's pretzel!

Since 1840, every presidential election ending in a year "0" (i.e., 1840, 1860, 1880, 1900, etc) produced a president who either died in office or experienced a near death situation.

1840 - Willian Henry Harrison: Died a month after inauguration.
1860 - Abraham Lincoln: Shot dead early in his second term.
1880 - James A. Garfield: Shot dead in his first year in office.
1900 - William McKinley: Was re-elected in 1900 was mortally wounded in the following year.
1920 - Warren G. Harding: Died of stroke while in office.
1940 - Franklin D. Roosevelt: Re-elected to a third term in 1940, died in office.
1960 - John Kennedy: Shot dead three years after being elected in 1960.
1980 - Ronald Reagan*: Shot in an assassination attempt was the first to survive the curse (thanks to modern medicine).
2000 - George W. Bush: Survived near death experience after choking on a pretzel (what a dumbass!).

*Ronald Reagan's wounds were as bad, if not worse, than Garfield's.

2. After thinking about this...

Bush didn't win the election in 2000. So nothing is going to happen.
Nothing is going to happen to Gore (the winner in 2000) either because he is not in office.

3. Using the Curse

I suspect that, if he's trailing the Democrat badly, the Powers That Be will set somebody up to try to take out Bush. It would probably be a severely deranged mideastern Muslim. A sufficiently dramatic failed assassination attempt would be engineered, one that might even injure or kill an "innocent bystander". Such a sacrificial lamb would probably be a pro-GOP celebrity, who would would then be elevated to political sainthood. Bush, of course, would emerge as the Great Healer, annointed by God in This, Our Republic's Hour Of Suffering.

Time was, I'd've laughed in the face of someone who suggested it, but after the Arkansas Project (Dickie Mellon Scaife's well-funded Clinton character assassination project) and the outing of Valerie Plame, I wouldn't put anything past this crew.

Paranoia may be getting the better of me, not that there's much "better" left! :-)
