Most of the friends I have now I met in high school, back in 1983-1985. It's a small group, and we get together every now and then.
I served in the Navy from 1986-1992. I kept in contact with most of my friends during that time. When I got out in 1992, for some reason I couldn't connect with anyone, but we finally started hanging out again in 1993.
My friend, Mary, had a friend she wanted me to meet, a young woman named Linda. Linda was probably 16 at the time, maybe 17. She had been a model, and she did look familar to me; I could recall a Japanese commercial she had been in.
Well, Mary and Linda were very good friends. We all hung out, and I chatted with Linda every now and then, but she was more Mary's friend than mine.
Meanwhile, a romance was developing between Mary and me. We started dating, and got married in 1994. Linda was Mary's maid of honor. My friends have many of the wedding pictures, and there's a good one of Linda signing the marriage license.
By 1996 we saw less and less of Linda. She had moved to Idaho and was going to school to be a nurse, and was also studying to be a paramedic. Mary would hear from Linda every now and then, and she'd come visit for a few days.
My marriage to Mary ended in 1997, but we parted on good terms and are still friends. We even went to each other's weddings when we re-married.
Fast-forward to 2001. My buddy Max had discovered something on the Internet. It was a photograph of a naked woman.
"Who's that?" I asked. "Doesn't she remind you of anyone?" I studied the photograph. And then it hit me: "Holy shit, is that Linda?" "Yes! She's a porn star now!" "A porn star???" "She goes by the name Tera Patrick now."
Tera was, in fact, a hugely popular porn star. I don't know if she still is popular, but in 2001 she was, winning lots of porn star awards.
Mary was not convinced that her friend was now a porno mega-star. She did eventually hear from Linda who confirmed that she was now Tera Patrick.
I'm tempted to get a copy of the photo of Linda signing my marriage license and have her autograph it, but my current wife feels very strongly that it would be a bad idea for me to do so.
Anyone here have any old friends that went on to become famous (or infamous)?
