I saved a baby Sea Turtle today.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 07:34 PM by FLSurfer
I was walking my dog on the beach today and found a barely living, baby sea turtle. The weather here is quite rough with winds at 25+ Kts and seas at around 8-10 feet.
The turtle was stuck in some debris and appeared exhausted.
I stayed with him for about half an hour. He could barely lift his head and the winds were flapping his front flippers as he didn't even have the stregnth to keep them tucked under his body.
He was so small and weak, it was killing me to see him in this condition.
I finally decided to interfere with nature's decision.
I picked him up and got him to a sealife rescue.
They said he is very young and the weather conditions simply wore him out. He'll very likely make a full recovery.

2. Don't they live for hundreds of years?
Just think he/she can tell their great, great, great, great, ... grandchildren about their adventures today. :)

3. Surfers are known for their ecological understanding
of the tidal balances that nature gives us,
and the sometimes the storm of life
is such, that we must help one another
in order to survive.

good job.

4. I don't think you disobeyed nature ...
It's been kind of unnatural lately, what with the storms, the higher sea temperatures (that might be partially due to human-caused global warming) -- and I bet he hasn't been able to find much food, what with all the disruption. Cheers to you!

How big was he? I've never seen a wild turtle.

6. He could fit into the palm of my hand.
He was so tiny. Must have been born fairly recently.
I looked for a nest or other turtles and couldn't find either.

7. wow! he must have survived getting munched by gulls ...
... or tangled up in a net, or all the things that can happen to such a little guy!

Thanks to you, maybe I WILL get to see a live sea turtle out there, one of these days!

10. I absolutely LOVE sea turtles! Good for you and...
Thanks for doing your part to save one of these wonderful creatures. Perhaps you showing up right when the turtle needed help WAS, in itself, "nature's decision". You were not interfering, you were doing exactly what was called for.

Kudos,
~Shine

16. Thanks for the replys.
It was such an odd set of circumstances that took me to that exact spot.
Won't really go into it but its not the beach I usually enjoy.
Its about 5 miles down the road. Just happened to stop to walk my dog and almost stepped on this poor guy.
I agree with all of you Sea Turtles are amazing.
