Python Bursts After Trying to Eat Gator
MIAMI (AP) -- The alligator has some foreign competition at the top of the Everglades food chain, and the results of the struggle are horror-movie messy.

A 13-foot Burmese python recently burst after it apparently tried to swallow a live, six-foot alligator whole, authorities said.

The gory evidence of the latest gator-python encounter - the fourth documented in the past three years - was discovered and photographed last week by a helicopter pilot and wildlife researcher.

The snake was found with the gator's hindquarters protruding from its midsection. Mazzotti said the alligator may have clawed at the python's stomach as the snake tried to digest it.

17. snakes have never won any prizes for smarts
Years ago I lost a 7' boa and a 6.5' python when they started feeding on the same rat from opposite ends and the boa engulfed the python, regurgitated, then died.

Funny though, Anacondas in South America eat Caimans(tropical gators)as a staple, perhaps that's what you get for being an introduced species.

27. Hell, I ate gator once, and I didn't burst
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 07:31 PM by KamaAina
It was at a little place right off Jackson Square. Alligator sauce piquant, to be precise.

The next day Mom and I went out to Audubon Zoo. She swears the gators there were giving me the stink-eye...

Mmm, I'm getting hungry, not so much for the gator (yup, tastes like chicken) as for its surroundings...

edit: can't leave off the sauce piquant, can we?
