Wow, ABC show talking about teflon overheating
FINALLY!

People interested in birds have known for THOUSANDS of years that overheating teflon kills birds. This suggests breathing the fumes emitted by teflon when cooking might just hurt humans too.

Sheesh. About freakin' time.

Be careful when you cook with the stuff and keep the overhead fan ON to draw the air away from you!

2. Actually, the dangers of Teflon were hinted at a loooooooong time
ago, and I stopped using it years ago. Even then I only used it to cook eggs which I never burned.

And I've stopped reheating anything in the microwave in plastic containers, microwavable or not....

3. I'm using cast iron
we still have the teflon, but I'm trying not to use them as much and getting into using my 2 old cast iron skillets instead.

I have heard this gives you the mineral iron in your food. Does anyone know if this is true?

Women can get all the iron they need this way.

6. I have a small cast-iron skillet my maternal grandma gave me.
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 10:39 PM by TXlib
It's at least 100 years old, and I still use it.

Meanwhile, the modern junk I bought 10 years ago is falling apart.

7. teflon
My iron skillet is about that old too, but the only things I can cook in it without sticking is cornbread and fried chicken. My eggs adhere to it.

11. Fucking Victorian America!!!
I hate this, the egotism, selfishness, image-driven American exactly replicates the old world of Victorian England...match for match, and guess what, the Brits failed after their grand movement,

12. I started watching this, then changed to CNN
I guess I want to bury my head in the sand because I love my non-stick cookware. They said Silverstone was just as bad. They promote non-stick on The Food Network, which I also frequently watch. How depressing that it took so long for someone to tell us.:-(
