Poll question: Best Bottled Water
Damn! I'm in lowly Jokelahoma and I can only think of a few around here that are available.

Educate me.

1. I recall a show Penn and Teller did on bottled water.
It was their consensus that there is no difference. They even tricked people and told them they were drinking bottled water and it was tap. I've had California tap, and it's rank! I think there is, and it's really individual.

I just don't like the taste of Aquafina, Arrowhead, or even Evian for that matter. Evian is just vile to me I can't drink it, and it is WAY pricey for bottled water.

I'm just fine with Dasani. Fuji water I can tolerate. There's also a new water that they are offering at Starbucks that I really liked--just don't recall the name of it.

Hope this is helpful!

3. I appreciate your input.
However, to me, Dasani is HORRIBLE. The ingredients are: Water, magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride, salt. http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/dasani/facts.asp

What the fuck is that about? Oh, I know. Drink a Dasani and it MAKES YOU THIRSTY so you will drink another.

The other waters I know about consist of water that is to some degree purified by reverse osmosis or distillation.

Dasani has shit in it that I do not fully understand.

or including Dasani on your list if you have objections to it and it's ingredients?

I feel like a dumbass for bothering to answer your poll, only to be told all the crap in Dasani and what poor taste I obviously have.

Thanks a lot.

It doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks--drink what you like and the ingredients you're comfortable with.

You obviously could give two shits less about what kind of water is best in other's opinions. Maybe you were bored, maybe you wanted to increase your post count, whatever. No big deal either way.

You already knew you didn't like Dasani--I don't like thinking I'm helping someone, only to find out they know more than they let on.

Take responsibility for that and keep the other bullshit to yourself.

I've always thought it was pretty ridiculous anyway, to pay perfectly good money for bottles of something that costs you about a quarter of a cent per gallon to get from the kitchen sink.

On edit: AND, you get to drink it from plastic bottles. How good is ANYTHING going to taste, coming from a plastic bottle?

9. There is a brand of water
that Target sells, called Archers (or without the s, I'm not sure) which taste like shit. It definitely has a metallic aftertaste. So not all water tastes alike.

I used to love Evian--I probably still do, but the fact is, spending more money for "imported" bottled water is just not something I want to do.

Yes, there are rotten bottled waters, but if you live in many different locations in many different states, you will find that there is too much chlorine in most tap water. Drinking bottled water at the very least eliminates that taste.

Water should taste like nothing. Literally. But it can taste like something if too many "additives" are put into it.

According to the label on the bottle of Poland Springs in front of me, there is only one ingredient: water. And as for bottling, this is what it says: Source: Poland Spring, Poland Spring, ME; Spruce Spring, Pierce Pond Township, ME and/or Garden Spring, Poland ME. Evidently, there is more than one source of the water with the name, "Poland Springs."

26. That is NOT True!
The story you were told is a fabrication based on politics. Where it began was in my neighborhood. Also since I was the area's State Rep. at the time, how could I forget?...

Point of contention: there is a pristine place about 15 miles NW of where I live. Poland Spring draws it's water there. Nearby residents in the Plantation of Highland and the Unorganized Township of Lexington, decided they did not like these big trucks going back and forth on their roads every day. This is not as unreasonable as it appears... There is only one rd. to the site. And that Rd. is mostly maintained by county dollars since most of the folks live in an "Unorganized Territory".

Since there were no State Dollars helping people out, and the Poland Spring operation was mostly down in Lewiston (a town about 60 miles away)-thus no jobs- people were getting very mad.

This incident happened at the end of my third term. Had I decided to run again, I would have put in a bill to tax the water that is taken, but I choose not to run for a fourth.

Bottom line: because all of that hatred and anger toward Poland Spring's mother Co, accusations were thrown. Apparently, the Co. has not done a very good job of deflecting them.

27. well if the water in your tap
comes from a river that people are told NOT to eat fish from...maybe bottled water is better.

And if the water in your tap is full of PCBs and goddess knows what else...maybe bottled water is better.

Maybe your tap water is better than the tap water I've had for the past 10 years. But I prefer the stuff in the plastic to poison and chemicals my body should never receive.

Then again, I drink Dasani--apparently there's no accounting for my taste, since so many have weighed in here with just how horrible it is and how much it sucks.

Don't understand why the op asked, if he already had moral objections to drinking it...

Whatever.

Kitchenwitch--there's also Fuji here in CA, Cystal Geyser, Aquafina, and generic bottled at most grocery stores. I won't counter an opinion on any I've named, I generally don't read bottled water labels and wouldn't be the best one to tell you if they are good for you or not. :hi:

Hi, I was just going to say that they're owned by Coca Cola and wentto google a reference but came back with this scary story. Thought you'd want to know. Btw, this happened in England but it's not like it doesn't or couldn't happen here. After all, these corporations always have the public's best interest at heart.... Don't they?

Things get worse with Coke

Bottled tap water withdrawn after cancer scare
Saturday March 20, 2004
The Guardian

First, Coca-Cola's new brand of "pure" bottled water, Dasani, was revealed earlier this month to be tap water taken from the mains. Then it emerged that what the firm described as its "highly sophisticated purification process", based on Nasa spacecraft technology, was in fact reverse osmosis used in many modest domestic water purification units.

Yesterday, just when executives in charge of a £7m marketing push for the product must have felt it could get no worse, it did precisely that. The entire UK supply of Dasani was pulled off the shelves because it has been contaminated with bromate, a cancer-causing chemical.

<snip>

Bromide is a naturally occurring trace chemical which has a sedative effect. It is said to have been added by the British army to soldiers' tea during the second world war to dampen down their lust. But when it is oxidised into bromate it becomes "a pretty nasty carcinogen", according to David Drury, one of the principal inspectors for the DWI.

21. And have any of you considered the environmental impact
of ALL THOSE PLASTIC BOTTLES?

Even if you recycle them, there's the energy content from making them in the first place...

Get a glass. Take it into the kitchen. Fill the glass with water from the faucet. Drink.

Pretty simple.

If your local water has too much chlorine, fill a jar or pitcher and let it stand open overnight on the counter or in the refrigerator. the chlorine will evaporate.

30. Thanks for not putting Ice Mountain on the list
They are owned by Perrier, the company that has been trying to build a plant an hour north of Madison in an area with lots of lakes for recreation and agriculture. They want exclusive water rights to certain streams and rivers and studies are showing they would lower the water in the surrounding areas by as much as 3 feet.

The people who live there have been fighting them for YEARS, and Perrier keeps coming back with another sham offer to dangle in front of government officials' noses.

Please don't buy Ice Mountain! Wisconsin health depends on it.

33. Dasani has SALT in it!!!!
I don't understand why this isn't a national scandal!

If I were a Dasani rival, I would make a commercial where a couple in a restaurant order "water, please" and the water pours them nice cold glasses of ice water and then picks up the salt and pours it into the formerly-appetizing glasses. They look shocked. Then it would cut away to the same couple looking at the ingredient list on a Dasani bottle with similar expressions. Then words come up on the screen: "Who the f*** wants to drink salt water!?"

It's overpriced crap water. I might not be able to tell the difference between water brands but I can tell when it's Evian

I won't drink tap water. Hell our tap water is so bad that I can't even drink it after it's purified. (I will use it to make Crystal Light or HOt tea - but I won't drink it straight)

I'm usually fine with Deer Park or Poland Springs - whichever the big container for your fridge (holds like 3.5 galleons) is on sale. Deer Park is the water that we have at work and I drink it everyday.
