I always wanted to learn Glass Blowing. |
|
When I was a kid we went to upstate New York and we went to the Corning Factory. They had glass blowers there, I thought it was really a cool thing to see.
OK GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER!!!!!!!

2. Burn your lungs out at the age of 30 |
|
We used to go to the Blenko factory back in the day. All the glass blowers smoked like cigarettes and looked like they were 70 years old.

5. Well the thing to remember is. |
|
Exhale not inhale. And try to keep moisture out, I heard that can make for a bad situation.

11. Well there must be places in TX where you can learn. My bro |
|
can't afford Haystack yet and it's a bit far away for him now so he goes to a master's studio and gets to work for an hour at a time for.. I think he said $80 a pop?
But the master has to be there to help. Some things are too hard and too dangerous for people who are new to it.

8. I know a guy who used to be a glassblower |
|
I went to college with him. Right out of college he got a job cleaning up a glassblower's studio. Eventually he apprenticed himself to the glassblower and learned the craft.
He's made some very cool stuff over the years, but has to work a day job to support himself, unfortunately.

17. Lampworking is getting really popular |
|
Making beads and things by melting glass.
A lot of bead shows or gem/jewelry shows will have lampworking demonstrations these days. I think it's easier to learn (and safer on the lungs) then glass-blowing, but you still get to play with molten glass.
