Julianne Moore played Maude. Aimee Mann was one of the Nihilists.

I love this movie. The first time I saw it I was in High School and I fell in love with it at first sight. I showed it to a friend of mine and for now on he wanted to be called 'the Dude'. This is one of my all time favorites.

19. Ok, but remember, you...asked me to ask
Are you a male of the species?

I'm certain that you are, because only men
love "The Big Lebowski" (for some reason
they all want to be The Dude). And I (a
female of the species) found it utterly
unwatchable. (Except for the parts with the
hairnet bowler guy.)

My sample size is about 6 men and 1 woman (moi),
giving my study a margin of error of +/- 1000%.
Still, I think it's compelling anecdotal evidence,
and stand by my hypothesis.

29. Ah hah! And now an informal poll <<<
Ok sasquatch I'll take your word for it that
you know women who love The Big Lebowski...

Now:
----
Are there *any* women here who love The Big Lebowski?

Are there *any* women here who saw The Big Lebowski
and thought it was a big shrug?

RSVP. If I get a good response I may do a pie chart.
With pretty colors.
No promises.

And I'm a gal. It was on one morning when I was getting ready for work and I stayed at home til the end. (I think at that point I had already given my 2 week notice, LOL)

I also bought the DVD recently but haven't watched it yet. It's appealing to me because of the California setting and the dialogue, and some great visuals (hello dream sequence! cracks me up)

42. I see... Thank you women-folk of the DU Lounge
Well I'm surprised that there is a woman
who likes/loves that movie, let alone three.

So I guess, to my disappointment, my hypothesis has
proven false, at least based on this latest anecdotal
evidence.

However, I should point out two things:

1) The data gathered is statistically insignificant.
2) Y'all can forget the pie chart. Ain't gonna happen
now.

22. you know what's really sad? They tore down that bowling alley.
I filmed a scene there some years back at least. Very cramped place, but great crazy neon signs outside.

Earlier this year, I went on a filmin' trip with some friends in LA - we searched around forever for it, and I was wondering if my memory deteriorated and I had forgotten what it was. Somewhere around 4am, I'm told by a grizzled Korean donut vendor that it was destroyed some months back.

I went "ah" and slithered back to some bed. While locking the car doors, I hear a Dylan song coming from an open window. "Gee, isn't that from Big Lebowski?"

Ah! The movie is on! Widescreen, surround sound, early morning hours in a cloudy room. Great timing, and a great movie.

27. Yes he is.
He reminds me of a guy I work with. I loved it when he pulled the pistol at the bowling alley. Steve Buscemi plays in about every Coen brothers film and he's usually a real mousy guy. He's good for comic relief though. He's also the anchor of their bowling team.

38. One of the authors of the /Port Huron Statement/.
The original /Port Huron Statement/, not the compromised second draft.

Some time later I looked for it, and lo and behold (emphasis mine):

Introductory Note: This document represents the results of several months of writing and discussion among the membership, a draft paper, and revision by the Students for a Democratic Society national convention meeting in Port Huron, Michigan, June 11-15, 1962. It is represented as a document with which SDS officially identifies, but also as a living document open to change with our times and experiences. It is a beginning: in our own debate and education, in our dialogue with society.
