So what's kept Richard Thompson from being a major star? |
|
The perpetually dour lyrics, a limited vocal range, or is it that he just didn't have the look to become a major star?
There was definitely buzz behind him when he left Fairport Convention and no-one can deny he's talented beyond belief (either in playing or writing). He definitely isn't lacking in talent (either in playing or writing) and it's not like there's never been a market for intelligent songwriters.
Admittedly, he's a hit amoung other musicians, but what has kept him from finding major public success along the lines of Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend or Neil Young.

Mainstream couldn't appreciate him. He doesn't write pablum for the masses like the others have been known to.
