Poll question: Yankee fans booing Randy Johnson, cool, or ungrateful and classless |
|
Granted, I am no Yankee fan, but I thought it was completely classless of the fans to boo him.

2. It was definately classless. |
|
I know never to boo against my own team!
Unless they do something stupid like drop the ball when the winning run is 90 feet away and they're locked in a tie for first place against the team that they're playing.

3. If they booed anyone during the past two games |
|
It should have been Alex Rodriguez.

4. I don't think we do professional athletes any favors |
|
by being all "Oh, that's all right, better luck next time." Even a .218 hitter makes more money in one season than most of us will make in our lives, and I think it's incumbent upon us to let them know when we think they're not earning it.
Christ, even Mickey Mantle used to get booed in Yankee Stadium, and Willie Mays at Candlestick. (I won't even mention Philadelphia.)

But speaking as a fan, I never boo members of my own team. I will heckle members of the opposing team, but in certain rivalries, that is expected.
That being said, I can be (and have been) disappointed in my team's play. But I would not boo them.

8. There're unwritten rules about it, or should be |
|
• You don't boo a guy for making a mistake. Reggie Jackson struck out 2,597 times — more than any other player in history. Cal Ripken Jr. hit into 350 double plays, more than anybody. Robin Roberts gave up 505 homers, the all-time record. Eddie Collins made 435 errors at second base. Jackson, Roberts and Collins are in the Hall of Fame, and Ripken will be next year.
• You don't boo a guy who's in a slump. Slumps happen, and players suffer with them worse than fans.
• What you may boo — and should, I think — are errors of non-hustle, selfishness or just "attitude." Even all-stars shouldn't be expected to perform 100 percent of the time, but if they don't give 100 percent — especially when we pay big bucks to watch them — they should get what they deserve.

9. I'm with you KW I hate when people boo their own teams. |
|
I loved Derek Lowe and it used to break my heart to hear him booed:-(
'Course I also hate it when Dems "boo" their own team.
But that's just me.:-)

10. Sorry. For the prices people pay to get into those games... |
|
the athletes should be able to take it all.
If I can't hold a job that payes 100 times less because I'm emotionally challenged, that guy should be able to handle 1000 times the crap I have to contend with.

I'd put up with some booing if I could make that much money.
