Anybody interested in "numbers stations" on shortwave? |
|
I think I read about it in one of the "Big Secrets" books first. It seems the "Conet Project" 4-disc set of recordings of these broadcasts is now available for free at archive.org, so I'm finally hearing them for the first time. Strange stuff.

according to a column I read a few years ago in Cecil Adams' "The Straight Dope." I don't think that they're the North Korean lottery numbers, that's for sure.
I used to hear them sometimes when I messed around with ham radio. I never had a license but there's something cool about picking up a microphone and talking to someone in Poland without a wire.
