3. Through the wheel wells, on smaller engined cars
A neighbor was telling me how she killed her cat that way, so many belts, so much fur.

4. Cats can get almost anywhere...
In my childhood, my neighbor across the street had 3 daughters and the daughters had I-have-no-idea-how-many cats. Seemed most of them would sleep somewhere in or on one of the cars they had. Under the hood, on top of the tires, one on top of the rear end (we called this one "differential dummy" because it was almost always coved in grease from cutting it's exits from under the car a bit too close).

I do know the daughter's dad incurred their wrath for far more than one cat death due to his usual morning routine of getting in the car, firing the engine up and slamming it into reverse even before the starter had quit spinning.

5. Sorry, can't help you
I've never heard of doing such a thing and I've never accidentally slain a cat by starting up my truck.

8. I actually saw a cat die that way
It was the saddest thing. We all piled into my friend's car. She started it and it turned over and made a clunky noise. Sometimes a cat will crawl up from underneath because it's warm.

7. Happened to me one winter. Cranked the car, heard an awful cry
and discovered that a small cat had been using the engine block for residual warmth.

The cat's tail had gotten caught in a belt and was stripped down to the bone. That was one of the strangest looking sights I have ever seen. No muscle, no tissue... just this twitching skeleton tail.

It gives me the shivers just to think about it.

After catching the little beastie, we wrapped him in a towel to carry it to the vet to complete its new transition to being a bob-tail cat.
