My Director was just home-invaded!
I just received a frantic call from his wife. She was sleeping upstairs, with their new baby, when she heard a BOOOOM--she thought it was something falling over, but she went downstairs to find two guys bagging everhthing of value--they'd kicked the door in.

She started screaming and throwing things at them, and one of them pushed her down before they fled the scene (with computers, cameras, etc).

She's hysterical, and the police are cordoning off the neighbourhood, the dog teams are searching (although it's raining pretty hard--so much for scents), and it's pandemonium.

It was in a relatively crime-free upscale area of Victoria BC, too.

Scary stuff!

2. yes, no injuries, but a bad night's sleep ahead, I'll bet.
No arrests, either.

3. That's Scary
Having one's wife and baby in a risky situation is bad enough, but when they come looking for you?

4. Why do some people think it's ok?
I wish everyone could think of other people's rights to peace before helping themselves to what is not theirs.
I hope everyone can soon find their peace and lay this incident to rest. Perhaps they should get a dog. A dog barking can sometimes turn off a would be invader. Too much noise and it ruins the element of surprise ( which gives them the comforting feeling of success ).
Even a large bolt on the door might help.
Hope all goes well.

5. That's A Good Idea
Something in the way of a big, noisy and clumsy Labordor Retriever that's good with children and bonds to the owner.

A smart dog beats a dumb pistol with kids around any day.

6. Newfy lab mix, best dog in the world. Scary except to dog people.
And it sounds like they had a heads up about what was in the house and where it was.

9. That's a violation almost as bad as rape
Find the bastards, lock them up, melt the key, fuse the lock. AND make the economic system more accessible for everyone so fewer people will do bad things, though it's inevitable some people will do bad things.

11. Surprised this happened in Canada
But it goes to show crime happens anywhere, I guess.

12. Well, Victoria's and Vancouver's crime rate spikes every fall/winter...
...because they are the most temperate cities in the country. Many people who abuse the Welfare system, are vagrants, or who are drug-dependent gravitate to Southern BC from the rest of the country as the weather cools, because we get virtually no snow or freezing temperatures here. And it's relatively easy to get 'emergency' welfare here.

This isn't a dig against honest people on Welfare, just the criminals who will rip off the State just as readily as someone's home.

Here's a side of Canada you won't see in the travel brochures. Canada's poorest postal code. It's not some tiny, forgotten aboriginal community in the middle of the tundra, it's in the heart of one of the wealthiest cities in the world. It is also "ground zero" for property crime, AIDS transmission, and injection drug addiction.

13. A few of them need to be killed
This kind of crime is popular now for some reason. If that happened in my home, someone is going to leave in a body-bag. I own several firearms and have the training to use them. I keep one in the bedroom and one in the living room. Gun ownership is very high in Tennessee, I guess thats why we don't have many of those crimes here.
