Breathalyzers Being Issued For Students Attending Home Coming Dances
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 08:30 AM by Skinner
<snip>

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --Students who attend homecoming dances this weekend will be doing some heavy breathing -- into Breathalyzers.

At Santa Barbara High School, officials will screen every third or fourth student who arrives and anyone who appears drunk, said Principal Paul Turnbull.

Dos Pueblos High School administrators will use the Breathalyzer only if they suspect a problem, said Principal Quentin Panek.

"There's a lot of heavy drinking going on," said Penny Jenkins, executive director of the local nonprofit Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. "Something's got to be done."

1. They did this at my prom and homecomings 10 years ago.
I didn't think anything of it at the time.

2. Thats kinda sad.
Young folks can't do shit these days. I would hate to be growing up in these days and times, since everyone is such a killjoy.

4. do you suppose those things detect ether?
'cause there's nothing quite like "dancing" during an ether high...

5. Does crystal meth or heroin register on those things?
If they don't I can't imagine why they would WASTER THEIR FUNKCING TIME ON SOMETHING AS TRIVIAL AS ALCOHOL WHEN THERE ARE SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH AND YES I DO MEAN IN SUBURBIA!!

Do they?

6. I agree.
I would rather have those kids drink that try something like meth.

8. I only started smoking pot in high school
Because it was WAAAAYYYY easier to get than alcohol.

Funny, that they keep such a tight lock and key on booze and beer while you could get pretty much any hard drug you wanted anywhere and anytime you wanted.

IMHO, that's the most convincing argument for legalizing/decriminalizing drugs. At least that way, you can restrict whose doing them.

7. well
but you wouldn't want them getting in their cars and wrecking on the way home... our prom was an 'all nighter- stay- in- one -place' type of deal... but I still can remember a big bag of confiscated bottles being carried through the hall. ;)

Hard to say where the line should be....
