Who loves google.earth ?
I just downloaded the free beta version about a week and a half ago. I've only had time to play with this tool last weekend, and also the the past couple of days a few more hours.

WOW!

I'm still learning. It's pretty awesome. I did have an episode where it almost shut my computer down. I've learned not to try to do too much at one time. It's a memory hog, for sure.

But it's really a cool play-thing! The Himalayan's are awesome with the "terrain" mode checked!

Whaddaya think?

1. If this is what I think it is...
...you should try zooming in on D.C. Because the capitol building and the white house are fuzzy, it's kind of cool.

2. I think it's cool too.
I like looking at my hometown. I even found my parent's house on there.

3. Love it! I was able to see the destruction in the French Quarter...
as soon as I got power back. Also, I was able to let my family in Port Arthur know that their houses were fine and had withstood Rita. Some were here, but most evacuated to North Texas. It was great for them to know that they didn't have to rush home...that everything was secure. Amazing that you can zoom in on a house and see that it's ok.

4. I've been playing with it's tools....
They're awesome!!

You have different things you can use that are very commercial -- who cares? But you also have some different tools that are very, very cool....

You can click on "terrain" and use your middle mouse button to rotate into 3d view. It works best on some of the highest mountain ranges, like I said, in the Himalayans. Or other cool places too.

You can click the "building" button and wander through the skyscrapers of Manhattan -- too cool.

But the 3d "terrain" mode is most cool.... Most of the Earth has enough data to render it exceptionally clear, for "fly-over" type sessions. But there are hundreds of cities that have detail.

altogether...

Too cool!!!

5. Google Earth is AWESOME!
I love to explore all over! I look through Rome, Italy all the time...it brings back memories of walking the streets when Greekspeak and I were there last March!
