1. still tired of cooking?
Corarose you need to just pick a state college and contact their Admissions office and their Financial Aid office. Go to their websites, and at admissions fill out an application. At Financial aid fill out a FAFSA form. It's that easy, they do the work.

3. vocational rehab
Unless Bush has slashed all their money, vocational rehab used to help people who were on disability with tuition and books.

5. This sounds like good advice, corarose
I don't understand the reason you rejected it. I am sure that you want to remain at your same school. Have you spoken to anyone in their financial aid office?

6. I haven't rejected any student loans as a matter of fact
I am maxed out of all of the loans that I could get. I lost the help that I received from DOR for my books, bus pass and the small amount that they paid on my tuition that my loans didn't pick up. I got kicked or on Friday and told that I can come back when I come up with the funds that they are not going to pay.

I am not tired of cooking either I love it and it's in my blood.

God I wish that I could turn the hands back in time and I wouldn't have missed the classes and I screwed myself up.

My life isn't over it just isn't going to ever start.

8. Who am I blaming honey?
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 11:50 PM by corarose
I blame myself. I had a 4.0 GPA and I FUCKED IT UP!

Oh, I have it so damn good living the high life on disability don't I.

I receive $540.00 bucks each month and I have food stamps and that is living the high life isn't it.

I did have it good when I had a house and a business but now I AM FUCKED big time.

My house was robed and that pittance of pay from SSD sure as hell covers new furniture, dishes, pots & pans, etc.

I live and that's it.

On Monday I am going back to College and asking them to help me IF THEY CAN BUT I DOUBT IT.

10. Culinary Teacher not Chef
I want to be a teacher or a personal Chef. I already know the difficulties and limitations of working in the restaurant business. I was a waitress and bartender for years.

I don't have to take BS off of anyone because I am broke either.

It seems that people tend to talk down to people that are broke and up to people that are not broke.

Do you know the cost of living in Chicago?

Also, Did I ever say that I wanted to work in a Restaurant? No I don't I want to teach classes so that poor people can learn how to cook nutritious meals on what little money that they have.

God Bless!

13. baby doll, you get $540 more than I do each month.......
maybe people who have NOTHING and homelessness right there on the friggin horizon tend to talk down to ungrateful wards of the social security state who do everythng BUT make the most of their good fortune. So, get your perception straightened out in terms of who is talking 'down' to her highness.

And, you give credence to ALL of the republican anti-social program mantras. Thank you soooooo much.

11. corarose, hang in there!
You have had a very hard time lately with your heath problems and your personal losses. This must have taken a great toll on you. You have a friend who offered to help with your tuition. You could make it a loan, if you don't want to be obligated, and pay it back when you are able to afford it. In the meantime, your friends here on DU are here to support you. I think your goal of teaching is an admirable one!:grouphug:

22. I am only trying to come up with some solutions for you, Corarose
You have had a difficult time with your dental problems and loss of your pets and I don't think you should turn down help when it's offered. People here care about you. I certainly do. At the very least, we share a love of animals and I, also, like to cook. What's with this poster who is giving you a hard time? I just don't get him/her at all?

14. why would she take money from an individual that she has to pay back...
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 12:35 AM by E_Zapata
when she's ENTITLED to so much FREE stuff.

Interesting that her only response to Rhian is a concern that "eek, someone here knows that someone out there is willing to help me, which makes my whining seem all the worse!"

Ugh, I wash my hands of this.

Personal responsibility........it's such a rarity these days.

23. What's going on here? I am fond of Corarose and am trying to
answer her query and help her come up with a solution to her problem. If you have some problem with that, you need to post it so others here will understand. I consider DU to be a family and, as such, we look after each other and try to help each other when we can. Corarose is part of my DU family. Since you are a member, as well, you need to explain what's bothering you so much.

18. Didn't you ask this question a couple of days ago?
Student loans are not specific to whether or not you have disabilities.

Student loans are based on income, as are many grants and scholarships.

If you are on academic probation--and you had a 4.0 and one semester screwed that up--well, I have a hard time understanding that, because GPAs are not averaged mid semester but after the semester closes and you receive your final grade for that class. I can't understand how a 4.0 could drop so severely to screw up financial aid in one semester.

Financial aid will only support you for a limited time, so if you jump disciplines, you may have to go it alone, on your own dime.

the semester isn't even over.....there ain't no averaging going on...... so , well.......I am getting the gist of this whole 'story'

I only ask.....why do I care? Maybe it's because of all the REALITY threads on DU concerning the real destruction of life on the planet as we know it.........

21. I just ranted about this on another thread
You may enjoy reading http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=414942 ... or not.

I consider myself a "loser" right at this point, but I only started moving again when I stopped blaming myself and acting passive and "deserving" of misery. But to be honest, if I ever get another lecture on "personal responsibility", the lecturer is likely to get flamed to a crisp.

The essence of what I said is that without getting someone who is in a victim role (whether justified or not) to re-assert their power, all the responsibility in the world is nothing more than punishment. The real determinant is being active, not passive.

Corarose may have made a mess of her life, but the first step is to take power, not blame. That's where the idea of "responsibility" fails. Without control, responsibility is punishment; with control, responsibility is guaranteed.

Any counter-rants? Agreement? Explication?
