Anyone think this "Zicam" works on colds? |
|
Supposed to cut them short.
I got some tonight because a cold is descending.
Yuck. Don't want a cold, thank you.

I got the "oral mist" which kind of makes me laugh when I say that. Must be feverish!

5. I love the nasal gel!!! |
|
It's either a zinc deficiency or something, but I feel awfully good when I take some.

2. Some say it screws up your sense of smell, plus, it's just zinc. |
|
That's what "some" say. Two pharmacists have told me it's nothing but junk, but then I guess they'd rather I took some "real" drugs.
Never tried it because of the supposed nose thing--I take Airborne, which rocks the house. And I drink echinacea + C+ zinc tea.
Good luck with the Zicam, though. What doesn't work for some works for others.

6. It is possible that colds are necessary. |
|
They may be necessary to keep your immune system on it's toes. The cold germs invade, your body builds antibodies, and it is better for you in the long run. The body defeats the cold and is now stronger, perhaps, to take on things like the flu. This is just, however, a theory I made up on the spur of the moment.
For what it is worth.

8. Well, I agree with your made-up theory! |
|
It's been a couple of years since I had an honest-to-goodness cold so I was due to have one, if that makes sense.

13. Zinc has been known to shorten the duration of colds for some time. |
|
...and by spraying the zinc directly onto the inflamed nasal tissues, it can act faster than going through the stomach and the bloodstream from the usual zinc lozenges or supplement formats.
What you must be careful of is NOT to sniff back into your sinuses the way you would with an ordinary nasal spray. Because if this stuff gets onto non inflamed tissues, it burns like a motherfucker. Probably why they recommend you hold your nostrils closed for a few seconds, so it can be absorbed.
