The purpose of this site is to bring people together and not to highlight their differences. When someone starts one of these popularity type threads, some feelings are bound to get hurt.

When some people see these threads they think that only the popular people get attention. In my eyes we are all on equal footing...there are no favorites.

My favourite Canadian DUer is, well, everybody.

I would like to pipe up and say that Democratic Underground is probably the best cultural tool the US has at the moment. If it weren't for the news, opinions, and social/trivial expressed here, the rest of the world would think that all Americans were bible-thumpin', flag-wavin', coke can at the dinner table-drinkin', racist, exclusionist warmongers.

That's what the rest of the media seems to suggest.

Hang out in DU, and foreigners like us get to chat with people who work for peace, question authority, loathe elitism, sexism, homophobia, serve their nation and community as they see fit, give to society, tell hilarious stories, read heady books and watch Threes Company reruns, enjoy a good burger or the occasional threeway, and, basically, love and respect one-another. To me, these are the traits America is founded on, and I'm happy to see them alive and well, and not nearly as marginalised as Murdoch and Turner would have us believe, here in my favourite Lounge.
