someone hacked into my web site & deleted my files
I've been running a web site called the Blatant Truth (you can see the mess that's there now) and this morning found an e-mail from my brother (sent around midnight est) wondering if I knew all the folders for my site were missing. I've e-mailed the ISP but it's still so early in the morning I probably won't hear from him too soon. When I try to access my files by FTP I get "login failure." All I can think is that someone somehow got into my files on the server and deleted them. I know it's nothing to do with the ISP because it's a small setup that has been associated with DU and is one of "us." Has this happened to anyone else here? How common is this? I can see the IP of the last visitor to my site in the weblog, at 11:22 pm, and wonder if that's who did it.

I do have all the files on my computer of course and will be republishing at another URL a little later today. But what a pain in the butt.

1. Seriously
What an A$$-O. I hate hackers that go around causing trouble. Why don't they put their skills to a better use like taking down the websites of corporations or the White House.

7. ima_sinnic isn't a corporation or the white house
Innocent people should be allowed to say what they want.

Crooks and swindlers like corporations (and the current occuptants of the White House) deserve every hacking imaginable, until they clean up their acts and attitudes, which we know won't happen because they're drunk with power, not ever expecting the hangover. I say, let's applaud those hwo try to sober 'em up.

2. Yes
Last week I was writing a letter to editor, saved on the C drive, and almost had it finished when it disappeared. I had to start all over and put it on the A drive, making a backup copy just in case. I sent out the letter, and a day later, it was erased from my A drive. The letter was printed in the paper, giving the royal finger to Bush, and whoever was screwing w/my computer.

I have a new e-mail addy now.

I was also being sent a lot of porn. It was taking me a few minutes each day just to erase it, and I'm heavily firewalled. Now I'm porn free.

8. Adaware, spybot s&D, antivirus, firewall
The first two are free and are easy to use. The latter two are worth the price, unless you're computer savvy and like to do manual updating (the pay-for stuff always include automatic updating...)

10. I've got Adaware
and the same firewalls used by the DoD. W/a new addy and a look at S & D, I should be okay in the future.

Thanks for the info.

9. Great graphic, but it came from newsweek and it has a digimarc watermark..
BushCartoon.com probably swiped it and added their logo to it, not realizing that the real creator had put his mark on it... (I know because I looked this up some time ago.)

In fact, here's the info I just collected on it:

I'd tell BushCartoon to be very careful, hehehe...
