I just found out last night that he is appearing in town tonight, at The Ark! Of course it is a sold out show, and I can't go
I saw him once live with The Mavericks, but have not seen any of his solo performances.
Love that voice, love those dimples, what a smile, beautiful eyes...

1. I've only seen him with The Mavericks. |

I saw him in the early-mid 1990s and then again this past spring. He does have a lovely singing voice.

The guy is an underrated, underrecognized genius. Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, especially Toby Keith = not worthy to carry his dirty socks.

3. I love him. The first time I heard him was in 1993. |

I had just been made music director of the radio station I worked for, and the Mavericks single "What A Crying Shame" crossed my desk. I was so mesmerized by his voice that I took the CD home and listened to it over and over and over I insisted that we play the Mavericks on our station. The competing country station in town did not add the Mavericks until a few weeks later - and I took partial credit for that, knowing that people were hearing it on our station and requesting it of both stations.
That winter, I talked the sales manager into hiring the Mavericks to perform at a local festival the following June. Their price then? $5000. We got the contract, and by the time the show was held six months later, their price was five times higher. If we hadn't gotten the contract when we did, we wouldn't have been able to afford them.
I interviewed Raul (and Robert Reynolds) both before and at the show, and found him to be very real, down to earth, and unassuming. There was just no trace of ego.
I still think he has the most fabulous voice ever. Listening to him sing "O What A Thrill" can bring a tear to my eye. So can "From Hell To Paradise."
I have all of the Mavericks albums, and I also have Raul Malo's album "Today."
