Help! My Dryer Won't Work
The tumbler won't tumble. Belts look good. Any suggestions before I have to call in the repair person?

2. does the motor make a sound at all?
If it does make a sound and it sounds the way it should, recheck the belt, pulleys etc. If it makes a nasty sound, it could be motor bearings, the motor etc...buy a new dryer. If it isnt making any sound, the motor isnt running, its probably electrical. Check the breaker box, look for a reset button on the motor. Hope ive helped.

4. It could be a pulley or a guide pulley spring
What brand?

Can you open up the dryer and check the pulleys?

It sounds like your motor is turning, but it just not engaging the belt.

5. Whirlpool?
Says Signature 2000 series...

I can open a little access door in the back where the belt and pulley are. Belt is good but I don't think the pulley is moving. Should I test it with the little door off?

6. Sorry, I had to cut and run last night
Did you try it with the access door open? How did it go?

It's always helpful to have a good reference for do-it-yourselfers. I always like to see if I can fix something myself, before calling the experts in. Thanks......

Here's a link to ..."do it yourself". It too provides some fairly good advice.

8. Belt might be loose.
There's a type of spray that you can use that will help. Name escapes me, though.

10. When my dryer has failed in the past it's been the thermostat
Some dryers have a single-failure thermostat that will cut off the juice if it get's too hot. If it can't be reset, you have to replace it, which is easy to do.

11. Hey... before you dive in....
Check your circuit breaker. Most dryers are 220 volts. One leg of the 220 powers the motor, and the other leg powers the heating element. It is possible that one side of the 220 has tripped and not the other. i.e. it may be powering the heating element, just not turning the motor.
