Poll question: 1984 Democratic Primary: Who would you have voted for? |
|
I did this for the 1988 election and the results led to a very close race between Gary Hart and Al Gore (the actual nominee, Michael Dukakis was tied for third with Jesse Jackson). Now I'm wondering who you all would've (or did) select in 1984.

3. I did vote for Jesse Jackson |
|
I think Paul Simon ran that year also and I would have voted for him if Jesse weren't in the race. Actually it was a hard choice. I really liked and respected Simon too.

9. I'd have had a hard time choosing, too. |

I've become acquainted with the senator since his retirement, and he just blows me away: a mind that's razor sharp, unabashedly liberal, warm, kind, a fantasic orator, never even a hint of scandal or dishonesty, etc., etc. . It makes one wonder what America would have looked like today, had he and not George #41 been elected President. :)

I was in South Gate California in 1984, they elected delegates by district and Jesse Jackson carried the district. It was nice to have Maxine Waters for a congresslady!

It was my first presedential election. Later I was ecstatic to see a woman on the ticket as VP. We have taken many steps back since then, it seems, thanks to the neo-con influence on society.

14. You left out Governor Reubin Askew of Florida |

who would have been an excellent nominee. Sorry he, like Bob Graham and Lawton Chiles, got pushed to the sides. They were true quality.

18. Whoever ran in 1984 was going to lose |
|
so why run Mondale? Run someone that would lose the election but change the course of the debate. Thats why I supported Jesse Jackson in my first chance to vote.
