Poll question: Okay Michigan and Ohio States fans - represent |
|
Who will win this weekends showdown in Motown?
To be honest with you all. I'm actually a Notre Dame fan. But hate, with a passion USC and Michigan for their ass kicking of my beloved Irish and sending them into their worst tailspin ever.
So I'm cheering for Ohio State.

14. I'm going to mediate between AWD and 1gobluedem |
|
because I like them both!
I think 1gobluedem is remembering that Ohio State said they would expel students for protesting *. AWD is remembering that many people in Columbus did protest anyway - and may have thought that 1gobluedem was implying that they did not.
They are both correct.
GO BLUE!

4. Looks like people here believe that Ohio State will win |
|
This is the biggest game this week, IMO. It has National Championship implications.
If Ohio State wins it, it will be a toss up between them and USC.

15. If Ohio St wins, USC is relegated to the Rose Bowl |
|
The BCS gap will only widen, since Michigan is far superior to either of USC's remaining foes.
Relegated to the Rose Bowl? Sounds bizarre, because when I was a student at 'SC a trip to Pasadena on January 1st was always #1, above beating UCLA and far beyond defeating Notre Dame.
This DU ratio is actually tilted to Ohio State so far. Michigan is a 7 point favorite, the theoretical equivalent of a 2 1/2 to 1 likelihood of victory. This DU poll does not even approach that ratio as I write this.

Lloyd Carr (Michigan coach) is an avowed Democrat. Ohio State threatened to expel everyone who turned their back to Bush's commencement speech or walked out. Hmmmm....which is better?

Something tells me that you don't get to lay claim to that one as much as I do.......just a hunch.

...Ohio State fans actually stood up to it and did something about it.
Go do your homework, THEN you can tell me about what happened that day. Because at this point, you have no clue what you're talking about.

...they threatened. I didn't say they didit. And I know the students did something about it. But that doesn't stop the fact that the threat was made.
I have nothing against Ohio State and I love the rivalry. Our morning news host is a Buckeye fan (his father played for Woody when he won the national championship in...62, I think? Bo was an assistant) and we have a lot of fun with the whole thing.

12. Actually, I remember it as 1gobluedem does.... |

Unfortunately. Though I know that you fought the good fight at the time and I know that the President who made the decision is now gone.
I found this.
"According to the Columbus Dispatch (6/15/02), students were warned ahead of time they faced arrest if they showed any signs of dissent: "Graduates had been warned during rehearsal on Thursday that they faced arrest if-- as was rumored-- some stood up and turned their backs on Bush during his speech." The warning continued on the day of the event as well, according to the Associated Press (6/14/02): "Immediately before class members filed into the giant football stadium, an announcer instructed the crowd that all the university's speakers deserve to be treated with respect and that anyone demonstrating or heckling would be subject to expulsion and arrest. The announcer urged that Bush be greeted with a 'thunderous' ovation."
