Misadventures in Moving, Vol 1 |
|
So, I made my reservation for a U-Haul truck on September 28, at a pickup center right down the road from my soon to be former home. Today, I called the regional office to make sure everything was all right and that I would be ensured that I could pickup my moving truck this Saturday morning.
The call was successful; however, I could not pick up at my desired location. I was all right with that, even though I should have asked the reasons why then. So, I called the office where I would be picking up the truck and established the pickup time.
After a day of thinking about this and speaking to my mother about this, I determined that a full explanation as to why I would not be able to receive the vehicle at my desired location was important. So, I called the regional office again.
The lady I spoke with was the same with whom I spoke this morning. She, of course, was displeased with my reasons for wanting an explanation. Primarily, her reason was the the local pickup had no vehicles available. Yet, I asked her to doublecheck. She did in protest.
She then found out that the local pickup was, as of Friday, closed for business as a U-Haul pickup and dropoff center. I informed her that I felt that U-Haul had foreknowledge of this information that should have been provided online as well. So she gave me a free 10 miles, which to counterbalance the extra mileage I will have drive now. I am supremely happy.
Misadventure One is complete. And, now I'm just waiting for the rest. :scared:

1. That's the scary thing about Uhaul/Ryder |
|
If the person who has the truck before you doesn't show up, you don't get to move. It could be financially huge to a person if they don't get from A to B on time.

I was driving a fully loaded pickup truck through the mountains and I saw a dead fox by the side of the road. You just don't see dead foxes that often, so I drove down the road until I saw a wide pullout on the other side of the road that I could make a large, safe u-turn in.
I went back, and the fox was BAD... no dice...
So I proceeded on my merry way, and when I got to the spot where I had turned around, there was a broken box of stuff all over the road. I said "ah s***" so I had to find ANOTHER pullout and turn around AGAIN.
I went back and it wasn't mine.
Someone else had lost a box of stuff at the exact place I turned around... go figure.
